What's New at Walnut?
May, 2017
Principals' Message
Dear Families,
I’m looking forward to seeing you all at Open House on Thursday, May 11th, at 6:00 p.m. It’s always one of my favorite events because it gives students the chance to show off what they’ve accomplished this year. At Back-to-School Night in the fall, parents hear directly from teachers about classroom curriculum, procedures, etc. At Open House, students not only attend—they get to be the tour guides! I hope you enjoy following your child’s lead as they show you around their classroom and share personal items like their writing, art work, science/social studies projects, and other work samples completed this year. Please join me in the MPR at 6:00 for a whole-school gathering before individual classrooms are opened. It will be a night of Wildcat Pride!

Fun Run This Friday!
Stay Up-to-Date with PTA:
Staff Appreciation Week: May 1st-5th is Staff Appreciation Week at Walnut. It provides a great way to share some love and encouragement with all Walnut staff members. Check the sheet of suggestions that went home. Your child may want to write a note to his or her teacher, or you could donate school supplies to the classroom.
PTA General Assembly Meeting: Our May meeting will be held the night of Open House, Thursday, May 11th, at 6:00 p.m. in the MPR. It will be a short meeting for all parents and school staff. We will vote on executive board members for the 2017-18 school year. It is important to have as many people there as possible.
Book Fair: PTA supports Mrs. Gennette, our librarian, with the spring Scholastic Book Fair. The book fair will run the week of May 8-11 and will be open the night of Open House. If you can volunteer to help set up or work a shift(s), please notify the office or Mrs. Gennette.
Field Day: PTA also supports Mrs. Flores, our PE teacher, with Field Day each year. This year's event will be Friday, June 2nd. Please consider volunteering with set up, the refreshment stand, an event station, or with clean-up. Field Day is always a fun day for students, staff, and parents!
