Dual credit changes now in effect
SD-STARS report can help!
During the 2020 legislative session, SB 142 was passed. This new law went into effect July 1, 2020. It requires that, starting this fall, students in the High School Dual Credit program are no longer eligible to participate if they have received a “W” or “F” grade in a high school dual credit course. Learn more about this change in this Frequently Asked Questions document.
SD-STARS contains student-level dual credit course performance information. The best report to help districts with this new law is CT.008.01-A – Dual Credit – Student Level List. The SD-STARS report provides a list of students who have participated in state-sponsored dual credit program. Included in the report is the course grade. It is the responsibility of the postsecondary institution to track who has received a “W” or “F” grade and review “good cause” applications from any students seeking exceptions. However, users who have the following permissions in SD-STARS can identify these students as well.
- District: Assessment
- District: Management
- District: Superintendent
- School: Management
- School: Principals
