Animal Research & Oral Presentation: Assignments coming home Monday, April 1st.
Animals Research & Oral Presentation
(Kindergarten Style)
Dear FVE Families,
We will be studying animals and will be learning about habitats, body coverings, family groups, what they eat, how they move along with other information. We have already been using the Internet to learn about subjects we have questions on at times throughout the year. We have also used non-fiction books throughout the year to gather information on different subjects.
One of the goals for kindergarteners is to be able to get information from different sources and to learn from visual aids, conversations, and reading sources. In order to accomplish this goal, the kids are going to need to do some work from home. Your child’s homework is to research an animal (we will choose in class) and then make a presentation on that animal. Please use 1 posterboard (aprroximately 22 X 28 inches) to make your visual presentation. Please help your child locate information on the animal he/she chooses. You can use the Internet, library, or books you have at home. Be creative. Students can also use any information learned about their animal while on our Field Trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. Discuss whether the animal is a mammal, oviparous, reptile, etc. Discuss the types of homes they have, what part of our world does the animal live in and the foods they eat. Discuss the life cycle and any other information that you feel would be important in the report to fully describe the animal.
All projects will be due by Monday, April 15th,. We will begin our presentations on Monday, April 15th and will present two projects a day until we have seen all projects. We will then display all of the presentations for a while to use as story starters.
When you child brings in his/her project they can bring a written report that I can read but the kids also need to be ready to give a short oral presentation on what they learned while researching their animal.
Have fun (I suspect the opening title put old college fears in the hearts of a few)! This is a learning process for the kids to see that information can be obtained from numerous sources then shared with others. I look forward to seeing all of the projects.
Thank you,
Mrs. Schmidt
