It's a good day to wear a mask!
A lot of information has been shared this week and there will be more Briones-specific information shared tomorrow evening at the Coffee and Conversation with Katy event (See below for details).
For those of you considering having your children return to school when the hybrid model reopens (K/1st on 10/12, 2nd/3rd on 10/26, and 4th/5th on 11/9), you can help your child to have a safer and more comfortable return to school by getting them used to wearing a mask now. Students in grades K-5 will be required to wear masks while at school with the rare exception of those who cannot for medically supported reasons.
The goal is for proper mask-wearing, hand-washing, and physical distancing protocols to be as automatic for students, staff, and adults, as wearing a seat belt for safety when you get into a car.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Teach your child how to put on and take off their make safely. Each student will have a clear pencil box in which to store their masks safely while eating. Watch the videos below and practice together!
- Start small. Have your child wear their mask for a few minutes at a time and build up stamina incrementally. Celebrate each increase in time that masks are worn!
- Let your child choose their favorite color mask or draw on a plain mask to decorate it. Try different masks for comfort and fit. Each student at Briones will receive two paper masks, two cloth masks, and one cloth PAUSD logo mask from the District. Masks will be replenished every 60 days on average.
- As Teacher Lanette's t-shirt says, every day is a good day to wear a mask and there are ways to help children get used to wearing masks that are positive and fun. Check out the video and article below for more ideas and information.
