Hello from the principal's desk!
Jan 28, 2018
Hello on this beautiful Sunday! I hope your weekend has been wonderful, and that your kids are being kept busy playing and enjoying their break from school. We are excited to see them tomorrow!
We just finished our round of 2018-19 Kindergarten family interest sessions. We held the Kinder info night two weeks ago, and then brought families around on student council led tours. Our kids did such a wonderful job describing all the best parts of our school! Our new incoming families had many great questions, and were really excited to hear about our new STEAM program, Music/PE/Media Lab programs, coding, Kinder recess and classrooms, STAR lab time, etc. We had a really nice time bragging about our school :). I kept telling them - "just follow us on Twitter to see more!"
Please check out our very own Susan Jones-Szabo, who has been featured in a blog on the front page of the Code Combat website. This is a major computer programming educational website, and we couldn't be prouder for the well-deserved press she is getting. This is a BIG DEAL!!!!

Check out our new AudioBoom podcast featuring the "President of the school" Devin and the Commissioner of Spirit Ben down lower in the newsletter, as we discuss the different ways that we reward kids for making good choices at school. They are amazing kids!
Lastly, an Ultimate Frisbee clinic for girls is coming to the Bayport Park on Sunday, Feb 4th for girls as young as 6. Click this link to learn more - https://bayareadisc.org/e/alameda-girls-clinic. As an avid ultimate frisbee player myself, I couldn't say no to the chance to spread this game to more kids. I promise they will love it!
With joy and gratitude,
Jesse Woodward

Student Council Corner
This week, our Student Council Officers and Class Representatives are distributing small collection boxes to every student. These boxes can should go home as we hope students, family member, friends, etc. will contribute their spare change to help find a cure for blood cancers such as leukemia and lymphoma. Ruby Bridges has participated in this fundraiser for the past three years now and is particularly important and meaningful to our school community because two of our very own students have been affected by blood cancer. Both students are winning their fight against it!
Collections will continue until the end of January. When boxes are full, students should bring their change to school and add it to their large classroom collection box! Let’s see which grade level raises the most money! This is a Student Council sponsored initiative. Any questions, please contact Mrs. Furuichi Fong!
