Week 27: March 25-29
Final Week in March 2019
Hope everyone had a great week back from Spring Break.
With only a couple weeks left until our first round of STAAR testing, many of us are laser-focused on what kids need to know! Although not all teachers teach a tested area, everything students learn in school help them in some capacity. I am convinced that the hours of tuba practice, running sprints and painting artwork all help to develop the "whole child."
Let's continue our strides in developing our students towards the best version of themselves, test or no test our kids are pretty amazing.

SAFETY UPDATE: Please read
Officer Cline and I reviewed the Campus Safety Plan and did a campus walk through with him. You may have already noticed a few changes around the school based on suggestions from that audit.
- The gate at the rear of the campus that exits through the fence to the cul-de sac will be locked each day from 9:30 - 3:00. All coaches, day custodians, admin and police will have that key.
- The metal gate that exits from the breezeway (between the band hall and the gyms) to the rear parking lot will remain shut and "dummy locked." This means it will have a chain and padlock, but they will just be wrapped and not locked.
- The library door closest to the cafeteria will remain locked at all times. Enter the library from the main entry door only.
- ISMS access entries will be requested for the exterior doors that lead to the portables and the bus loop. (These are very expensive and other campuses that have requested still have not received them so-- no promises but the request will be made.)
- Interior classroom closets and the stage door will get magnets for their doors.
Thank you to everyone for being consistent with having doors locked, with the magnet in place, and having window coverings that truly cover EVERY part of the window on your classroom door. Also, having a sign out and ensuring ALL students have a pass when they leave your classroom are important safety procedures to have in place. Several teachers implement that seamlessly. If you're not doing it, talk to your neighbors and share strategies.
Kudos to everyone during this week's unannounced lock down. Everyone responded very positively and there were a minimum of concerns.
