Connect Student Updates
· All Schoology HELP documents and videos are located on the CFISD webpage, under the tab: PARENTS & STUDENTS and can be accessed by clicking the big red button.
· If you have not had a chance to view the information posted in Schoology for our virtual parent night, please do so. Our Andre’ teachers have added additional video supports as well as Andre’ specific information. We encourage you to communicate any additional areas where we can best support you and your children with CFISD Connect.
· While students are connecting virtually, cameras must be turned on. A teacher must be able to see a student to monitor, adjust instruction, and assess learning. Students must be on the screen for scheduled two-way real-time/live instruction in order to be counted present for attendance.
· Our school hours are from 8:40-4:10. Students who are not joining their classroom Zoom class will be counted absent. Students connecting after 8:40 will be counted tardy and the child will be admitted by an administrator. Once teachers begin small group instruction, they will not be able to continuously check the waiting room. One of our amazing parents suggested a schedule for children:
- Get up.
- Connect to Zoom right away (you will be in the waiting room).
- Set phone or microwave timer for 8:35.
- Get ready for the day by being school ready (school clothes).
- 8:35 timer- be present in front of the computer with screen on.
- 8:40- class begins.
2nd Quarter Students Returning to Andre’ for Face to Face Instruction: NOVEMBER 9th
- You and your child will need to complete Welcome Back to School Onboarding Checklist steps posted in Schoology. This will make sure that we are prepared for each child returning.
- Make sure your child brings their District-issued Chromebook to school daily. Students will be accessing Schoology from the classroom, as well as other online independent practice programs that will be leveled specifically for each child’s needs.
- Your child needs to bring back to school the science study guide, handwriting book, writing journals, and any math manipulatives or other materials we have sent home.
- If you did not purchase school supplies, ask your teacher for a list of needed supplies for the remaining grading periods.
- Your child will need to complete a temperature check and respond to screening questions before coming to school. All students are required to wear a mask at school. Students have assigned seating and number order for walking in lines. Students will sanitize often and will practice social distancing procedures during all parts of the school day.
- Your child needs to bring a labeled water bottle daily. Water bottle refilling stations are available, but water fountains will not be available for individual use.
Important Information
Water Bottles
Please make sure you child brings a refillable water bottle to school each day. We no longer have water fountains for student use. We are now equipped with water bottle fillers. We will also have bottled water for sale in the cafeteria at breakfast and lunch. Thank you for your continued support with our new health and safety measures.
Fall Portraits
Students returning to Face-to-Face instruction for the 2nd 9 weeks will be photographed on December 3, 2020. All Connect students not returning to campus for the 2nd 9-weeks will receive information soon about Fall portrait sign-up options. Look for an email soon with sign-up times.

News From the Nurse
Important Health-Related Information
· All students (grades PK-12) must wear face masks on buses, in hallways, and in common areas. Face masks will be provided for students if needed.
· Face masks are defined to include non-medical and medical grade disposable face masks and cloth face coverings (over the nose and mouth) that meet the same protection standards as non-medical grade face masks. Additionally, face masks with exhalation valves (vents that allow air to be exhaled through a hole in the material) may only be worn in combination with full-face shields.
Parents must screen students daily (prior to entering a school bus or school) for the following signs and symptoms of COVID-19:
Are you experiencing any of the following in a way that is not normal to you?
o Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.00 F
o Loss of taste or smell
o Cough
o Difficulty breathing
o Shortness of breath
o Fatigue
o Headache
o Chills
o Sore throat
o Congestion or runny nose
o Shaking or exaggerated shivering
o Significant muscle pain or ache
o Diarrhea
o Nausea or vomiting
o Have you had known close contact with a person who is suspected, presumptive or lab confirmed with COVID-19 within the last 14 days?
- Students must stay home if they answer “yes” to any of the above. Students may transition temporarily to the CFISD Connect remote learning option during this period with the ability to keep up with instruction and meet attendance requirements.
- Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 at school will be evaluated by the nurse. The nurse will determine whether that child can remain at school.
- Before a student may return to school, established criteria must be met as stated in the “Students Return to School Protocol” on the district website.
Feel free to reach out to me for any health-related questions or concerns. You can reach me by phone at 281-463-5505 or by email at ursula.staten@cfisd.net.

No Place for Hate
Andre’ is a No Place For Hate Campus! Here is our Resolution of Respect/Pledge that all students and staff sign each year. Horizons
Horizons Program
The window for requesting testing for your child for the District Horizons (Gifted & Talented) program is now open. We will be taking requests for testing until Monday, November 30. Request testing now and avoid the holiday rush!! It’s simple to do….send an email with (1) your child’s first/last name, (2) current grade level, and (3) home room teacher’s name, stating that you would like your child to participate in testing. Direct all of your email requests to Brian Finnerty at brian.finnerty@cfisd.net.
All testing will take place between January 8 and February 12, 2021. There will be a new online format this year. In the past, we have given paper and pencil versions of this assessment. Students who are utilizing CFISD Connect will be scheduled to come into the building for online testing. Our face to face students will be taking the assessment during the school day as well. All of our safety protocols will be in place during testing, and more information will be provided closer to the testing date.
There is a flyer attached to this month’s newsletter regarding Horizons testing.
Words From the Library
If you have library books from last year, please bring them to school so they can be checked in. Students can request books using the online catalog system. Here is a video to learn how:
How to Place Holds on Library books https://www.wevideo.com/view/1860129989
Learning-At-Home students can pick up their requested books any time during the school day or at 4:30 on Wednesdays. On-Campus students will have their books delivered to their class or informed to pick up their books in the library.
Notes from the front desk
Lunch Visitors
Due to new health protocols, we will not have lunch visitors or deliveries.
Absences
If your child is absent, please send a note on the first day of your child’s return to school stating the reason for the absence. Thank you.
Transportation Changes
If a child’s end-of-day transportation changes, the parent/guardian must send a note with the date, necessary changes and parent/guardian signature. If a note is not received, the usual method of transportation will be followed.
For safety purposes, no changes will be made after 3:30 P.M. and PHONE CALLS or E-MAILS CANNOT BE ACCEPTED.
Student Council
Did you know that Andre’ receives 10₵ for every General Mills Box Tops for Education we collect? Please remember to scan your receipts for Box Tops from participating products. See the flyer and video below for information on how to download the app and scan receipts.
If each student turns in 10 box tops, our school will earn over $1,100! Wow!
