VISION STATEMENT
TO EMPOWER ONE ANOTHER TO MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT IN THE WORLD
A Message From Dr. Flowers- Principal
It's been a fantastic week, filled with excitement and learning. Our "Right to Read Week" was a huge success, with students engaging in various activities each day. From Inclusion Day to Flashlight Friday, it was a great week filled with learning and fun.
The Shamrock Shuffle and Mother-Son Dance, is just around the corner! If you haven't already purchased your tickets during the presale, don't worry – you can still buy them at the door. We look forward to seeing you there!
A quick reminder: there will be no school on Tuesday, March 19th. Please mark your calendars accordingly.
Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
Warm regards,
Barb Flowers

Hello Brimfield Families!
In a world that often emphasizes individual achievement, the power of empowering others can sometimes be overlooked. Yet, fostering a sense of support and encouragement within our community, starting with our youngest members, can lead to a more compassionate, understanding, and cooperative society. As parents and educators, we have a unique opportunity to instill the value of empowerment in our children, teaching them not only to strive for personal success but also to uplift others along their journeys.
What Does It Mean to Empower Others?
To empower others means to encourage and support them in a way that makes them feel more confident and capable of achieving their goals. It's about giving someone the tools and confidence they need to grow and succeed. When we empower someone, we acknowledge their strengths and potential, regardless of the challenges they may face.
Modeling Empowerment
Children learn a great deal from observing the adults in their lives. We can model empowerment by actively supporting our friends, family, and colleagues, and by speaking positively about ourselves and others. Showing appreciation for the efforts and accomplishments of those around us, regardless of the outcome, is a powerful way to demonstrate empowerment in action.
Encouraging Teamwork and Collaboration
Teamwork and collaboration are essential components of empowerment. Encourage your child to participate in group activities that require cooperation and mutual support. This could be sports, music ensembles, or group projects. Highlight the importance of each member's contributions and celebrate the team's achievements as a whole. This teaches children that empowering others and working together leads to greater success than working alone.
Teaching Active Listening and Empathy
Empowerment is closely linked to active listening and empathy. Teach your children to listen carefully to what others are saying, to put themselves in others' shoes, and to offer support and encouragement based on understanding. This can be practiced through role-playing at home or discussing characters' feelings and actions in stories.
Promoting Positive Communication
Encourage your child to use positive language when interacting with others. Teach them to offer compliments and express gratitude freely. Discuss the impact of their words and actions on others and encourage them to think about how they can use their words to uplift and support their peers.
Providing Opportunities for Leadership
Empowerment also involves leadership. Provide your children with opportunities to take on leadership roles, whether it's leading a small group activity, making decisions for a family outing, or helping a younger sibling with homework. Leadership experiences teach children how to make decisions with others' interests in mind, fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment.
Celebrating the Success of Others
Finally, teach your children to celebrate the success of others as enthusiastically as they would their own. This can be as simple as congratulating a friend on a job well done or celebrating a sibling's achievement. By teaching our children to be genuinely happy for others, we foster an environment of mutual support and empowerment.
In conclusion, by modeling empowerment, encouraging teamwork, teaching empathy, promoting positive communication, providing leadership opportunities, and celebrating the success of others, we can teach our children the importance of uplifting those around them. Together, let's commit to creating a community where every member feels supported, confident, and empowered to achieve their full potential.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kuzas

Eclipse Day April 8, 2024
All students will be sent home with eclipse glasses after spring break.
There will be NO SCHOOL on April 8, 2024.
What safety precautions should be taken to view the eclipse?
With the exception of the very brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun's bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun unless you are using eye protection specifically for solar viewing. Do not view any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the secured over the front of the instrument as this may instantly cause severe eye injury. Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun. They transmit thousands of times too much sunlight and could damage the eyes.

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
