Mrs. Johnson's Journaling
Report Cards will be coming home the week of October 26th. Be looking for these in your students backpacks, sign the envelope to return to the teacher, and keep the report card at home.
This week we had 90 students grow one level in Lexia Core 5! We are so proud of all the growth our students are making. A few students even grew 2 levels this week!
This week will be Red Ribbon Week and Fall Parties. We will have a virtual Bear Bash for viewing during the Fall Parties in the classrooms. Remember because of the restrictions on visitors, no parents will be allowed for Fall Parties this year.
As always, we are here to help! Please contact us at (479)750-8760 or email us at bayyariinfo@sdale.org.

Nurse's Update
Students who missed the flu vaccines due to being absent, blended or not having a completed flu form may attend a separate school clinic to receive their vaccine. If you have parents inquire about this, please ask them to call me and I will give them the date and other information they will need. They can also walk in to the Washington County Health Department and get a flu shot at no cost. The address is 3270 N Wimberly Dr, Fayetteville, AR 72703. Yesterday was the only day for flu vaccines at our school. Please let me know if you have any questions. Here is a flu website from the Arkansas Department of Health explaining the free flu shots at the health department.

Library Update
The library staff are excited to announce that we have partnered with Book Depot to host a two-week online book fair fundraiser through their retail website, Book Outlet, between Oct 20, 2020 and Nov 3, 2020. Book Outlet is an online retailer that offers thousands of new books for up to 90% off.
How the online book fair works:
· 20% of all purchases made during the online book fair will go back to the library in cash rewards.
· A unique book fair link will be circulated to you the day before the book fair begins to use throughout the fundraiser. Emphasize to your families to shop on Book Outlet using that link, so 20% cash rewards get attributed to Bayyari Elementary.
· After the book fair ends, over the following six months, 5% of new Book Outlet purchases will also go back to Bayyari Elementary in cash rewards.
This book fair’s success relies on how well we promote it, so let’s do our best to share it with everyone we know!

Helping Your Child Make Friends at School
I recently read an article titled “8 Ways to Help Your Child Make Friends in School”. I found this article at https://health.clevelandclinic.org. Of course, we want our children to be successful at making friends, however sometimes it is hard for some children to make friends naturally. This article gave great suggestions for us as parents to help our children create those lasting relationships. We are not born with social skills. This is something that has to be developed over time. We can help our children develop these skills by following these simple steps.
1. Take time and observe your child when they are in a social situation. You do not know how to help them unless you are able to identify the problem.
2. Always model a positive social behavior. Our children are always watching our behaviors. Model social situations appropriately. This will help your child in their own social situations.
3. Role play with your child. Practice different scenarios with your child. This will help your child learn how to handle different social situations.
4. Let your child practice before doing. If your child is interested in a certain activity, practice with them or allow them to do the activity before participating with other children. This will help your child gain confidence.
5. Always give reassurance and praise. Baby steps, always give your child praise along the way for trying new things. This will help bring confidence to them.
6. Be socially proactive. Offer your home to host certain social events for your child or be proactive in giving an invite for a play date.
7. If your child is dealing with a social problem, don’t avoid it. Push your shy child beyond their comfort level. This is for their own benefit. If they are shy, lead by example. Slowly help them move beyond their own comfort zone socially. Be there along the way offering support.
8. Your Child is an individual that should not be compared to their siblings. All children have their own personalities. Let your child be themselves. Shy people usually have close friends in a smaller friend groups. Outgoing children usually have larger friend groups.
