Principal's Message
Dear Angell Community,
Congratulations to our 5th graders on a successful camp experience this past week. This event is another example of the #berkleydifference. Our 5th grade staff across the district as well as Nurse Rose, school administrators and other support staff made this 3-day 2-night opportunity possible. A generous donation from our PTA also made this an affordable adventure for all of our families. We also want to thank all of our high school counselors that gave up their personal time to make this a memorable experience. Below is a picture of our Angell Alumni that were part of an incredible counseling crew. We love to have our alumni back in the mix working with our students.
This month we are focused on Habit 6 - Synergy. Camp is a great example of synergy where the combined talents of several groups working together to do something powerful. Our students are learning in class about the importance of 1, 2, 3 (imagine the letter you make when putting up that many fingers).
- 1 is for I - Ideas: Being Open to New Ideas
- 2 is for V - Valuing Differences
- 3 is for W - A willingness to Work Together
Counselor's Corner
This past Tuesday Mrs. Greager and Mrs. Chudler shared more about executive function. The presentation highlighted:
- Response Inhibition: Thinking before you act-resisting the urge to say things.
Working Memory: Holding information in memory while performing complex tasks
Emotional Control: Managing feelings so you can be productive and successful.
Flexibility: Seeing many sides of an idea or situation. Changing and adapting.
Task Initiation: Beginning projects and tasks in a timely fashion.
Sustained Attention: Paying attention even if you’re tired, bored, or not interested.
Planning & Prioritizing: Creating a roadmap to reach a goal. What should I focus on first?
Time Management: Estimating how much time you have and using it to meet deadlines.
Organization: Creating and maintaining a system to keep track of information or materials.
Goal-Directed Persistence: Completing your goal without being distracted by competing interests.
Metacognition: Noticing how you’re doing and thinking about how you’re thinking.
Also, in honor of reading month, they shared many books that can be leveraged to teach your children about executive functions. For more information, please click on the link below that will provide you access to their full presentation.

Off to the Races - Berkley Education Foundation Fundraiser
The students and staff at Angell are excited to host our 2nd Annual Occupation Day. The goal of this event is for students to discover the many different career paths that are available in their future. It is also a great opportunity for family members to showcase the hard work and skills needed to be successful. We hope to display a range of different occupations. We will provide the students with "passports" so they can record their visits to the different destinations. This will help us facilitate discussions with students in the weeks following the event.
If you would like to learn more or would like to participate, please fill out this Google form. We look forward to another great event!
