Meadowbrook News
September 2, 2022
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
It has been an amazing week! The excitement that comes with having your children back in school brings me so much joy. Thank you for sharing them with us!
Please remember that we do not allow edible treats in celebration of birthdays or other life events. This is in response to our district Wellness Policy and takes into consideration the various food allergies of our students. We recognize all students' birthdays by announcing their names over the morning announcements and providing a birthday pencil. If you would like to share something with your child's class in celebration of their birthday, we suggest things like stickers, pencils, erasers, or donating a book to the classroom. Thank you for your cooperation!
It wouldn't be a beginning of the year newsletter without drop off and pick up reminders!
Drop Off Reminders:
- Parents, please stay in your car.
- It is safest to have students exit the passenger side of the car.
- If you need to assist your child, please park your car in a parking spot and walk to the door.
Pick Up Reminders:
- Please pull your car ahead until you reach a stopped car.
- Please display a sheet of paper with your child's first and last name and grade
- All students report to their pick up location at 4:00pm, if they haven't been called earlier. At 4:00pm, the parking lot staff shift from collecting student names to assisting students in finding their car as they pull through the line.
We are looking for individuals to help us with recess supervision. If you have an interest in working with our students between 11:30am and 1:30pm, please let me know!
I wish you and your family a relaxing holiday weekend. Remember, no school on Monday, September 5 in honor of Labor Day.
In partnership,
Natalie
PS Take a look below at our Lost & Found items from the first week!

From Nurse Karen
It has been an exciting week here!! I enjoy seeing all of our students and welcoming our new students to Meadowbrook.
Just a friendly reminder that if your child has any medications they need to take in emergency situations (Epi Pens, Benadryl, etc), please bring them to the Health Office as soon as you can. We need a current action plan from your child's medical team as well as a signed document allowing me to administer the medication. This is state law and needs to be provided each school year. If your child takes medication, I ask that a parent drop them off to my office.
Covid is still present. Please be helpful and keep your child home if they are ill. Please refer to the Hopkins website regarding isolation procedures as they have been updated this year. Our wonderful Covid Mitigation Team has worked hard this summer to create the updated policy with CDC and MDH as the backbone of the changes. I do have Covid tests available to send home at your request.
Please be aware that children need to be vaccinated to attend school in Minnesota. This is a state law. If you are behind in getting your child vaccinated or have vaccination concerns, please give me a call. I have information for free and reduced vaccinations. We do not require Covid vaccines to attend school.
I am looking forward to a great school year!

Meadowbrook Carnival
We’re four weeks away from the Meadowbrook Carnival fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 30 (no-school day) and we need more volunteers!
The Carnival brings the whole Meadowbrook community together to have fun and volunteer together. We have filled 53% of the volunteer slots and need 120+ more adult or student volunteers. There are several opportunities to run a game or activity with your student or to volunteer with other caregivers and expand your Meadowbrook connections. Choose your volunteer spot now.
New for 2022: Choose a grade-level-specific volunteer slot to meet other caregivers with students in the same grade(s) as your student(s). This idea was suggested after last year’s event and we’re happy to offer ways for you to get to know other caregivers in our school community. Look for these designated slots by grade:
Kindergarten: Eat Street Mains (5:00-6:00pm)
1st Grade: Eat Street Mains (6:00-7:00pm)
2nd Grade: East Street Cashier (5:00-6:00pm)
3rd Grade: Eat Street Cashier (6:00-7:00pm)
4th Grade: Eat Street Food Runner (4:00-5:00pm)
5th Grade: Eat Street Food Runner (5:00-6:00pm)
6th Grade: Eat Street Food Runner (6:00-7:00pm)
For more details, visit the Meadowbrook Carnival site or email us.

Art Adventure is back for the 2022 - 2023 School Year!
The Art Adventure program will be back again this year in January of 2023. We are currently seeking in-room volunteers to help share an appreciation for art with our scholars at Meadowbrook. The commitment is just three sessions but the experience to interact with kids in the classroom is priceless!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Art Adventure is a wonderful way to engage with students and become a memorable part of their classroom experience. Sign up to lead (often entertaining and insightful) discussions with students about artwork from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) collection. No previous experience is required and no art or art history education is needed at all! All training provided by Mia. Most sessions are delivered in-person but virtual sessions can also be offered.
Looking forward to connecting! Please email us with your desire to participate or any questions about the program - mbartadventure@gmail.com

Welcome in 2022-23 with HEF
Hopkins Education Foundation has been marking each new school year with the Annual Rock-N-Royal Block Party for nine years and running and we sure hope that you will continue this tradition with us as we celebrate this new school year!
We're closing the block again this year and adding some new fun while welcoming back some of our favorites to Rock-N-Royal! Del Sur Empanadas' food truck will be joining Thirty Bales and together they will supply both sweet and savory flavors along with the best of summertime grilling. There will be outside bar stations available for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Get your game on! This year we are hosting our first ever Cornhole Tournament also known as the HEF Cornament which is already proving to be a hit (sign up to play today as teams are limited)!
With no shortage of fun on hand, Watson, the five-member band, will keep us on our feet and dancing in the street with their modern classic rock! Visit www.hopkinseducationfoundation.org to buy tickets, register for the Cornament, and get more info. We can't wait to see you there!
