Happy St. Patrick's Day
I wanted to share a few bits of information tomorrow 3/13 Goodwill Tulsa will be holding a Self - Advocacy Fair. This fair is always well attended and vendors from various community agencies will be on hand to answer any questions. The fair is from 9am - 2pm. I have attached the flyer below with more information.
Who can attend?
Any child or parent/guardian that has a child on an IEP from elementary all the way up to high schools.
Why should I attend?
To gather resources for you and your child on didn't transition programs and or college information. Some agencies have a wait list of 13 yrs before services will begin. Starting early looking into options is a great way to gather information and ideas.

Elementary School Years
Accomplishing certain tasks throughout a child’s school years will make moving into and out of each stage smoother, and help to ensure the student will have the best possible outcomes. That’s why planning for Transition is an important aspect of the Individual Education Program (IEP) for students with disabilities.
The Elementary school years are the time to share resources with families so they can apply for benefits from Developmental Disabilities Services, Social Security, and SoonerCare. From the earliest stages, the student should begin learning skills for Self-Determination and Self-Advocacy. IEP teams should also consider whether the student would benefit from Accessible Educational Materials (AEM), and Assistive Technology (AT). ABLE Tech can help educators with considering AEM and AT for students. Request an AT Consultation, or email Kimberly.Berry@okstate.edu for assistance.
This information is based on the Oklahoma Secondary Transition Planning Folder developed by the Oklahoma Rehabilitation Council in coordination with the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services and the Oklahoma Department of Education. For more information visit https://orc.okstate.edu/
