Distance Learning
We know that distance learning is difficult for everyone, and our school is working hard to make sure our “pivot” to a schoolwide distance program is as smooth as possible. This week will be the first time since last spring where all students are in a remote only learning environment. Some of our students have already been engaged in distance learning full-time, while our hybrid students have been able to have in-person learning two days per week. Throughout this spring, summer and fall, we have been working hard to develop and improve our distance learning model. You will see significant improvements from what we were able to offer our students last spring. While we feel ready to serve students in a fully distanced model, know that we eagerly look forward to seeing our students back in person as soon as it is safe to do so.
Teachers are working hard to support your child’s learning and your help is crucial to your child's success as well. One of the most important things you can do is support your child in attending school online every day. All of the things that prepare your child for learning when they attend school away from home, are still important when attending school through distanced learning at home:
- Set up a place in your home for your child to attend school & keep a regular bedtime for "school nights".
- Help your child get up early enough to "get ready for school".
- Have them get dressed "for school".
- Eat a healthy breakfast and be seated at their home desk ready to learn when "school starts" for the day at 8:45 for their morning meeting.
Your teacher will be sharing with you a sample schedule of what your distance learning week will look like so that you can plan your child’s day. This schedule will include synchronous learning times (Google Meet/Zoom), activity breaks, specialist classes (PE, music, library), independent work time to complete assignments, and a morning meeting time at 8:45. Each Monday morning, teachers will be sharing their weekly learning menu on Bloomz and on Google Classroom. Please contact your teacher if you’ve not yet signed up for the Bloomz communication platform as it is an important communication tool between parents, teachers, and our school. As always, please contact your teacher directly with any questions you may have about the weekly learning menu.
Important services will continue:
- Home internet support for low-income families, please contact our school office for assistance by emailing cesattendance@csd49.org or calling 302-5855
- Current grading practices & attendance requirements
- Limited in-person services for some students receiving special education or intervention services. Students who receive special education services and other intervention services will be contacted individually with a schedule for in-person services.
We are committed to educating our students and doing everything we can to support their families during this difficult time. Let's continue to work together collaboratively and with grace as we strive to create a learning environment where students are engaged and thrive during this unprecedented time.

Attendance Reminder
The school is required by law to track attendance to ensure that students attend school regularly. For each absence the following steps will be followed by the school:
- An auto call informs parents that their child was absent at 5:00 PM each day
- Students learning remotely at home have until the next morning at 8:00 AM to complete their attendance task as directed by their classroom teacher.
- Remote attendances can be corrected by students for up to 5 days after their absence by completing their attendance task and contacting their teacher.
If your child is ill, email the office at cesattendance@csd49.org. This will be an excused absence.
If your student has 3 unexcused absences or more than 5 excused absences in one month, state law (RCW 28A.225.020) requires we schedule a conference with you and your student to identify the barriers and supports available to ensure regular attendance.
Do You Need Support With a Chimacum School Issued Computer?
We’ve set up a tech support for students, parents and guardians to call when experiencing connectivity or laptop problems with a Chimacum school-issued computer. In order for us to be able to help you:
- Have your school-issued laptop up and running, and in front of you when you call.
- Be at the location where you are experiencing the problem.
- Be within range of a WiFi network.
- Have your password ready.
- When you are ready, call (360) 302-5850.
Chimacum School District Tech Support is available Monday thru Friday between 7 AM and 4:00 PM PST.
If you reach our voicemail, please leave a detailed message with your name, the student's name, phone number, and the best time to reach you.
Note: Please work with your teacher if your problem is with your account password, you need a new account, or you need to request a laptop. Your teacher will work with tech support to help with these needs
