Kudos to Our Teachers!
This was a great week of teaching and learning at our schools. Our teachers are working extremely hard, and I was particularly impressed with what I saw in our writing classrooms this week. During the Instructional Audit at Roberts, we saw student writing samples posted, conference logs and interactive notebooks (with the table of contents). The audit was excellent, with every teacher in the building working towards student mastery. At Madison, the English I teacher was immediately applying the brainstorming strategy that she learned at the STAAR Academy held at Gilliam last week. She invited me to her classroom to see the anchor charts that she had developed. I am so proud of our teachers, and I know that our students are benefitting because of their hard work and commitment.
Together, we can positively impact our students, schools and communities. I believe that we have everything that we need to do just that. I believe that each of our schools will meet standard with an increase in distinctions. I urge you to believe with me.

Working Smart
If you have not already done so, make sure that your teachers understand the components of the STAAR Writing/English tests. Take a look at the Snapshot document located on the Lead4Ward website. English teachers should understand that 46% of their tests includes 2 short answer responses and 1 essay. Are we spending 46% of our instructional time on these 2 components? Fourth grade writing teachers need to know that 70% of their test will cover the revising and editing. Are we teaching the rules or are students just answering based on what "sounds right?" How much time are we spending on the revising and editing?

Lincoln's Culinary Students Partner with The Crescent
The talented culinary students at Lincoln have been selected to partner with the Rosewood Crescent Hotel where they will engage in shadowing, mentorship and eventually internships. This is an excellent opportunity for our students and we are so proud of their eagerness to learn.
Leadership Focus and Updates
This week, please have recent data available from your interventions so that I can review it during campus visits. The data can be DOL data, weekly quizzes or writing samples. We will continue with the PLC observations as well this week. Please review your emergency evacuation plan in light of the recent fire at W. Wilson.
Reminders:
-Review the 4th 6 weeks common assessments this week during PLCs. The final assessments will be available on 2/5 on CC.
-Principals should provide written feedback to teachers within 48 hours of the spot observation.
-Please note that non-renewals will be somewhat earlier this year due to the Board calendar. If you have teachers who are struggling, ensure that you are making every effort to support their progress.
