First Grade News May 6, 2016
What have we been up to this week?
- In reading. we reviewed fiction vs. nonfiction, and we practiced identifying the main idea and key details of a text.
- In writing, students pretended to be a raindrop and wrote a diary entry. They followed the writing process (brainstorm, draft, edit, and publish).
(Remember that I do not have all of my homeroom kids in math.
Be sure to ask your child what he/she is doing in math class!)
Library/AR Goals
However, this means that students will not be able to check out books at the school library next week. Students will need to read books from home or the public library. About half of our class is still working to meet their AR goals, and these students have until May 20th to meet their goals! Students will have a variety of books to read at school, but they will need to find books to read at home!
Flat Stanley
Below: Sabrina's Flat Stanley came back this week! He went to Austin and Houston, Texas! He went to a dog show, rodeo, and German festival!
Cinco de Mayo
Brown County State Park Field Trip
On the day of the trip, students should wear comfortable walking shoes and have clothing on that is appropriate for the temperature as most of our day will be outdoors. If your child does not order a school lunch, you will also need to send a disposable sack lunch that does not require refrigeration and a drink (not soda!). Do not forget to label your child's lunch with his/her name!
>>Permission slips and money ($8.00) are due on May 13th!<<
