Eaglet Gazette

Our Eaglets did an incredible job transitioning back to school this week after a 4 day weekend! This is the time of year when we may start to see some tears at drop off. Rest assured, once your child is in the classroom and engaged with exciting materials and peers, the tears are gone! It can be harder on us as adults. Here are some helpful tips to navigate tough transitions:
- Talk about school in positive ways.
- Give a window wave and hug.
- Send a family photo in if you haven't done so already.
- Talk about the schedule! When kids know about their day, it helps ease worry.
- Know you can always check in throughout the day with the teacher or the main office!
IMPORTANT UNEXPECTED UPDATE:
PICTURE DAY HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO A LACK OF STAFF. LIFETOUCH CONTACTED US TO LET US KNOW THEY CANNOT KEEP OUR SCHEDULED PICTURE DAYS OF OCTOBER 25TH AND 26TH. WE ARE WORKING TO RESCHEDULE, IT WILL LIKELY BE IN THE SPRING.
A few reminders:
- As mentioned last week, ECDC has shifted their hours which makes 8:00 quite busy in our parking lots. If you are parking in the front lot to drop your child off, please remain aware that if a bus has a stop sign out and staff are unloading kids, YOU MAY NOT PASS THEM. Additionally, parking in the middle of the drive way to drop off poses a traffic jam. Parking in a space ensures we don't get backed up onto Post Office Road.
- Thank you for your continued dedication to keeping SELC healthy by monitoring your child for illness and communicating with Nurse Jen!

Executive Function Strategy: Question of the Day
Description:
Question the day is a daily practice activity, where children are actively engaged in answering a question based on previously learned content with picture cues to help. Children may answer the question independently, or with peers and the teacher will review the question as a large group. Children practice name recognition and self-regulation skills, as well as develop print awareness. Questions can support concepts learned in any domain/standard.
How we do it…
As the children enter the classroom they…
Pick up their name tag
Read the question or listen to the teacher/friend read it
Answer yes or no by placing their name tag in the appropriate column.
What are children learning?
- how to make choices
- Literacy skill (recognizing your name, concepts of print)
- Oral language skills and concepts
Some example questions are…
- “Are you wearing a red shirt today?”
- “Does cat rhyme with bird?”
- “What comes next: RED YELLOW RED YELLOW ________
- "Is teeth brushing a healthy habit?"
This activity focuses on the following Executive Function skills:
Inhibitory control of actions and attention by being able to take the time to answer the question
Working Memory by remembering the question, the answer choices, and following the steps of the strategy within the routine of the day
- Cognitive Flexibility by recognizing that the items used in pictures might not be exactly like the real item

Health and Wellness
- Per the Governor's orders, our PK"ers" are required to mask until further notice
- There are plenty of mask breaks built into the day during outside, meal, and rest times
- Please send an extra mask in the event one gets soiled so we can switch it out
- Frequent handwashing will be in place
- Vigilant cleaning of classroom materials will occur on a consistent basis
- See the daily health attestation below. This is placed at your child's classroom door. Please review this and if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of illness, please do not hesitate to reach out to nurse Jen! jmaier@enfieldschools.org 860-763-8858!
