Principal's Message
Dear Angell Community,
Our wonderful PTA is planning a special event that will celebrate all the cultures represented at Angell Elementary School. Here is the PTAs special message and invitation to join in.
Come and CELEBRATE your culture and country at Angell Elementary's FIRST cultural festival/dance. The PTA DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Committee wants everyone to proudly show off who they are and where they are from.
Family's will have a table that represents your culture. Families can share traditional clothes, provide a traditional dish to share and present a trifold poster that highlights your country of orgin. Families may also have other items that represent your country (think home decor, painting, country flag, etc). The PTA will provide more details to families that sign up after April 1st. In the meantime please save this date: May 2 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
This past week we hosted our annual reading month skate night at Skateworld of Troy. This event raised almost $850 dollars through donations. The funds will allow us to add books to our already rich library collection and will also support a full school assembly from Jim Basketball Jones on April 22nd. Jim is a talented performer who will bring a message about character education, the importance of reading and overcoming challenges through perseverance, We appreciate your generosity!
We are also excited to culminate our reading month activities with a visit from State Representative, Natalie Price and by hosting our annual All School Pajama Read In and Book Swap (See details below) on Friday, March 22nd. Thank you for helping us celebrate the love of reading and making March a month to remember.
One final note - please pay special attention to a COVID/health update provided by Nurse Rose below.

COVID/Health Update from Nurse Rose
You may be aware the CDC has updated and simplified respiratory virus recommendations (including COVID-19). The Oakland County Health Division has followed suit. Please see OCHD website at https://www.oakgov.com/community/health/health-a-z/information-a-z/respiratory-virus-guidelines for updated respiratory guidance.
The takeaway is students and staff should stay home when sick. According to the Managing Communicable Disease booklet for Schools from MDHHS, do not report to school with a fever, vomiting x2, diarrhea x2, continuous abdominal pain, or rash and fever with behavior changes.
Per OCHD, If you develop a respiratory virus:
* Stay home and away from others.
* Use precautions to prevent spreading the illness like wearing a mask
* Seek health care promptly for testing and/or treatment if you have risk factors for severe illness. Treatment may help lower your risk of severe illness.
For people with respiratory viral illnesses such as COVID-19, RSV, and influenza, they can return to normal activities when symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, has been gone for at least 24 hours without use of a fever-reducing medication.
March is Reading Month
March is READING MONTH. This is one of the most exciting times of the year at Angell. Our reading month committee has organized many enriching activities to celebrate reading throughout the month of March.
READING MONTH ACTIVITIES
- READ ACROSS AMERICA: We have a fun challenge for our Angell readers this year! Each students will get to choose their own Route to travel and hear different books. As you complete your route, fill in the map. Everyone who does will earn a prize! (https://shorturl.at/evCQ0)
- BOOK SWAP: On Friday, March 22nd, students will be able to bring up to 4 books from home to trade for new books. Books must be in good condition with no damage.
- SKATE NIGHT: The PTA has generously funded a Skate Night at Troy Skate World on Wednesday, March 13th from 6:15-8:15. Admission is free, but skate rental is extra. Monetary donations for the Angell Media Center will also be accepted. This is NOT a drop off event.
- BOOK FAIR: The Scholastic Book Fair will be here for the week of March 18th. Before the book fair is open to families, students may shop during the school day with parent permission.
- PAJAMA READ-IN: On Friday, March 22nd we are having a whole-school pajama read in. Students will be able to wear their comfy (and clean) PJ’s to school. Each classroom teacher will decide how the read-in looks in their classroom.
*Reading logs are due AFTER Spring Break on April 1st.
