A Peak at the Week!
Chancellor News and Notes, November 7-11, 2016
Chancellor and Alief Proud!
Alief Proud and the International Parade are tomorrow, and we have students and staff showing off for Chancellor at both events! Some of our clubs will be participating in walking in the parade, there will be a fantastic Chancellor booth at the Alief Proud festival which will be manned by a group of Chancellor staff, and our Chancellor Violins will be performing at 9:25 am on the main stage! If you want to go have a great time with your kids, or want to support Chancellor and Alief, stop by the Alief Proud festival from 9 am to 12 pm tomorrow!
Thank you to the staff members who are helping out and participating in Alief Proud this year! It's a great opportunity to show off our school spirit and be Chancellor Proud!
**If you are attending the parade of Alief Proud, please take some pictures! Send your pics of our Chancellor people to Jennifer Wong or to me (713-454-3994). Thank you!
November Donation Drive- Please help!
Please help us make our November Donation Drive a success. This drive is open to donations of all kinds: toiletries, gently used clothing and shoes, and non-perishable food. We would love to have a huge donation for families in need. Part of our donation will go toward student families that we know are struggling on a daily basis and really need some extra help.
All items are important, so please do some sorting at home, check your pantries and toiletry surplus, and go do a little shopping to help out. We have many families who do not have food on a daily basis, and struggle with basic needs such as housing, electricity, and water. We all know students are in survival mode when they do not have basic needs met, which of course affects their learning. This is a chance to give immediate and concrete help to not only our Chancellor families, but also to the community. Please talk up the drive with your students, and please donate. The drive runs until Thursday, November 17th. Thank you for your help in advance.
Our Comet of the Week is....Monique Ratcliff!!
Mrs. Jones has nominated Mrs. Monique Ratcliff, 4th grade ELA teacher, for the following reasons:
“Mrs. Ratcliff is an exceptional teacher who goes above and beyond for the students making learning a fun and positive experience. It’s refreshing to see Mrs. Ratcliff dedication to her profession, often coming in early and staying late to foster the best learning environment for the students."
Mrs. Ratcliff will have the pleasure of parking in the Comet of the Week parking spot in the front, a jeans pass, a snack shack coupon, and the privilege of naming the next Comet of the Week!
Thankful Challenge
It's November and with Thanksgiving approaching, it's a time to reflect on the year, and show thankfulness for what we have. Take a moment each day to think about all the good things in your life that you have been blessed to have, and all of the beautiful people who you are blessed to know. Share your grateful thoughts with others, write thank-you notes, post on social media if you enjoy doing that, and tell those around you in person how thankful you are they are in your life.
Sometimes we get stressed this time of year, but just stop for a minute and think about how good your life really is, and how lucky you are to be alive, have a place to live, have your family and friends and maybe some pets to love, and have the opportunity to GIVE BACK each and every day you come to work. We are so lucky to be educators, even in the current educational climate, because we get to MAKE A DIFFERENCE with every child we teach. That is a true calling and a true gift.
Even on days when I just want to walk over Lisa and say "I'm done, I quit!" due to work-stress (those moments happen to all of us I'm sure!), I always stop and realize, I am really so blessed to: first, I have a reliable and steady job, and second, I have a job that is filled with caring adults and wonderful young people who are filled with love and joy for their teachers and the staff in this building. It's really an amazing thing. :)
