Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Wishing everyone a very enjoyable and snow filled weekend.
A couple reminders as we move forward…
The weather is turning and we are finally getting winter. Please remind your students to dress appropriately. Students need to wear coats, boots, snow pants, hat and gloves (mittens), in order to be able to play in the snow. If they don’t have the appropriate attire they are asked to stay on the blacktop surface. Thus, having them dress appropriately will be extremely beneficial and much more enjoyable for your students. We have plenty of clothes in the Lost and Found already- if you are missing something please come in and take a look. If your child is in need of some winter clothing please let us know that as well- as we do have some extras we keep on hand.
Next week we will have a GSRP (Great Start Readiness Program) starting in our building. The Field School team has moved to the portables in the back of the building, affectionately referred to as the camper;) With the start of GSRP it will cause a few extra cars in the morning. We currently want to remind all families that bring their students of the following:
STAY IN LINE
BE CAUTIOUS
BE PATIENT
PULL UP AS FAR AS POSSIBLE IN THE DRIVEWAY
USE PARKING SPOTS IF YOU NEED MORE TIME
One of the points mentioned is to pull up as far as possible. You will notice in the map below that the blue shaded area is almost always completely empty during the drop off hours. By pulling up as far as possible you will alleviate some of the congestion on Stuyvesant. Thank you for the consideration and willingness moving forward.
As always please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.
West is..
Best,
Tony
Attendance
Student Absences
Just a reminder if your student is absent please email westoffice@nvps.net or call 616.361.3470 the day of the absence.
Student Tardy
Students are marked tardy if they arrive to class after the 8:15 bell. Please make sure to sign them in on the Chromebook located in our lobby if you drop off students after this time.
*If your student is attending an appointment of any kind please provide us with a doctor's note.
We are now at the point where truancy/attendance letters have begun being sent out and want to make sure we are working together to have your student in school as often as possible. Please know that this reporting it mandatory by the state of Michigan and is something we have to do.
Girls on the Run!
3rd and 4th Grade Parents:
Girls on the Run is coming soon! This is an amazing program that teaches girls in 3rd and 4th grade how to navigate their feelings and to get along with one another. We also learn about different ways to exercise and stay in shape and we have tons of FUN.
If you would like to sign your daughter up for Girls on the Run, click here. Please remember there are scholarships available to EVERY girl!
**We now have practices available on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. Please contact Marisa Strow (mstrow@nvps.net) if you would like more information or have further questions.

Nurse's Corner
- Please remember that you cannot send medicine to school with a student, regardless of it is OTC or prescription. A Northview permission form for medication at school must be filled out before office staff can give it to the student.
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuisance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc bag in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.
