Animal ID Deadline is May 15th!
Are you planning to exhibit an animal at a 4-H-sanctioned event? If so, make sure to ID your animals by May 15!
What is Animal ID?
Animal ID is a system for identifying and tracking all animals in the 4-H animal science project areas. Animal ID information needs to be entered into your youth's 4-H Online account.

***If your animal needs ear tags please stop by the Extension office or email Tracy: tgiza@umn.edu to have them ready for you to pick up. Ear tag numbers need to be entered into 4-H online to complete the Animal ID process.

Crow Wing County 4-H Youth Leadership Post-Secondary Scholarship
4-H High School graduates are welcome to apply for scholarship money that is budgeted each year from the Federation funds. Amounts of the scholarship may vary each year. To apply, 4-H’ers must meet the qualifications provided below.
Requirements and Information:
1. Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in the current year/or college freshman who has not previously received the scholarship.
2. Must be a current Crow Wing County 4-H member that will be Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in the current year/or college freshman who has not previously received the scholarship.
3. Must have been enrolled in Crow Wing County 4-H in grades 9-12.
4. Recommendation letter from a non-related 4-H adult volunteer, preferably your club leader.
5. Scholarships are awarded based on the content written in the application. All names are removed from the application so applications are anonymous when reviewed by the selection committee.
6. Scholarships are awarded based on scholarship selection committee review.
7. Scholarship winners will be announced at the June Federation meeting.

NE 4-H STEM UMD Campus Immersion: Engineering Design Camp

Cost: $360
Youth who have completed grades 6-10 are invited to join Minnesota 4-H for this overnight experience, July 8-11.
4-H STEM camp is a four-day immersive campus experience. During camp, you will engage in hands-on science and engineering design activities with professors and students at the University of Minnesota Duluth's Swenson College of Science and Engineering.
You will also learn more about yourself as you consider your own pathway to higher education.

Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Opportunities - YELLO

Youth in grades 7 and up are invited to attend Youth Exploring Leadership and Learning Opportunities (YELLO) this June! YELLO is the statewide leadership conference and includes educational workshops, group networking experiences, inspiring messages from nationally-recognized speakers, field trips and opportunities to contribute to the local community through service projects.
Location: University of MN-Morris
Dates: The conference will be held June 12-15, 2024
Transportation: There will also be an option for a $50 bus ticket to and from YELLO

2024 “Hit Me with Your Best Shot” 4-H Photography Contest

Minnesota 4-H Photography is excited to offer another multi-state photography contest open to youth in grades K-13!
Select your best photo (with no or minimal editing) and submit it with up to two sentences that explains why it’s special to you! More information and rules for the challenge can be found at: 4-H Hit Me with Your Best Shot Photo Contest | UMN Extension with rules available here.
Submit one (1) jpg or jpeg image and statement to fourhphoto@umn.edu by 11:59 p.m. (CST) on May 1, 2024. Volunteer 4-H photography judges will provide feedback via a slideshow. Top photos will be recognized with a prize and random prize drawing winners will also receive a gift.

Dale is a Masterson Method Certified Practitioner with a focus on equine wellness which includes bodywork, essential oils & improving the relationship we have with horses.
Takeaways from this clinic to incorporate with your own horse :
- 1-2 Bodywork techniques
- 1-2 Equine fitness goals
- Equine Anatomy
Bring a horse or come to learn without a horse.
Register in 4-H online (must be registered in CWC 4-H)
Horses attending the clinic must have updated coggins.
Crow Wing County 4-H Horse Pleasure Clinic

Cost: $15/youth
Crow Wing County 4-H Horse Project will be hosting a Pleasure Clinic. Melinda Dexter, 4-H Horse Judge, will be teaching youth Showmanship at Halter, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and English Pleasure.
Date: June 29th, 2024
Time: 9-3pm
Location: Crow Wing County Fairgrounds
- Youth are welcome to attend this event with or without their horse. Youth bringing horses must have an updated horse coggins uploaded in 4-H online. Youth are welcome to bring 1 horse each.
- Youth are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for this all day event.

Cass & Crow Wing County LQA&E

Cost: Free
Cass and Crow Wing counties will be offering an in-person Livestock Quality Assurance & Ethics (LQA&E) training on Saturday, May 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Pequot Lakes Trailside Center.
LQA&E training must be taken by youth in grades 6 and up before exhibiting 4-H livestock at their county fair and to be eligible for the NE Livestock Show or Minnesota 4-H State Livestock Show.
All youth showing livestock in grades 6-13 are encouraged to take LQA&E training every three years, even if a state show isn’t one of their goals.
The training helps youth provide excellent care for their food and animals and ensures a high level of food safety for consumers.
In-person certification is good for three fair seasons, so training must be taken every three years. There are new lessons covered each year.
Online training is available for those who can’t attend the in-person training. The online training is good for one year only and has a cost.

NE 4-H Camp

Cost: $160
Youth in grades 3-6 are invited to join us at the beautiful Long Lake Conservation Center in Palisade for three days and two nights of adventure. We will explore nature through hands-on activities, outdoor recreation and camp games.
The camp fun will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, and end at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28.
Registration fee includes meals and lodging for three days/two nights, supplies and a camp t-shirt.

4-H Dog SuperSession

Grades 3 & up
4-H Dog Supersession will be held at the Wadena County Fairgrounds on June 1.
Participants will bring their project dogs and gain experience in obedience, rally, showmanship and agility classes. They'll also learn about grooming their dogs and explore how they can enjoy their dogs throughout their lives.
Presentations will include:
- Fine-tuning obedience skills.
- Rally skills and hints for success.
- The best of showmanship.
- Agility – handling skills, obstacle performance and more.
- Training topics – motivating your dog, obedience skills for the real world and learning theory.
- Careers with dogs.
- Grooming your dog.
Youth in grades 3+, their families, trainers, and youth and adult dog project leaders are all welcome to attend.
4-H Sensational Soybeans Kits

Dive into the world of plants with our 4-H sensational soybean kits - perfect for youth in grades 3+. You'll receive everything you need to grow soybeans in a self-guided kit except the bucket and soil. Join us to explore soybeans, learn from local farmers, and experiment with soil dynamics.

In Search of Donations for the 4-H Building
The Crow Wing County Federation is looking to enhance the 4-H youth's and fairgoer's experience at the County Fair. We are in search of flat screen tv's to display in our 4-H building at the fairgrounds. We will utilize these tv's to assist with demonstrations, project areas, animal shows, and promote events & programming.
