School Safety & Crisis Response
The events of Friday April 5 at Duluth East High School and throughout our community are a reminder of how important it is to have a crisis response plan in place and to practice that response regularly. These are some of the most challenging situations school personnel and police can face.
- We often say, if you hear something say something. The fact that someone did report what they heard was key in preventing a possible tragedy. We are so grateful to the person who reported what they heard to the police, they are a hero.
- We appreciate the work of the Duluth Police Department and the response of our Duluth East staff, students and families. Our staff did a tremendous job quickly and calmly working to take appropriate steps and students did well responding to direction.
- As is our practice, we’ll review our response with staff and police to see what we can learn and use it to further inform our emergency response plans and procedures.
Thanks for all you do each day to help keep our schools safe. Many thanks to the Duluth community for their support during this time and into the future.
