Car Rider Parents,
Now that we are nine weeks into school, we would like to request your continued support in ensuring safety in our car rider line.
In the morning we ask that you not make a left turn into the parking lot between 8:15 and 9:00 AM. Instead, please come through the neighborhood or make a U-turn at the circular drive at Nature Trails in order to make a right hand turn into our parking lot.
Also, we will occasionally ask you to turn left when exiting our parking lot. We do this to alleviate traffic, and we would appreciate your support with this car rider safety procedure.
If you have any questions about the car rider line, please call Mrs. Murr at 281-897-4740. Thank you.
Thank You, CUMC

Notes from our Nurse
Guidelines for Keeping Sick Children Home from School
A sick child who is unable to participate in school in a meaningful way should be kept home to rest and recover until symptoms resolve. Keeping a sick child home also protects other children, school staff, and visiting community members from contracting an illness that can be spread from person to person. Please be aware of the following guidelines for school attendance.
- Fever: A child should remain home with fever greater than 100° F and should only return after he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicine such as Tylenol or Motrin.
- Diarrhea/Vomiting: A child with diarrhea and/or vomiting should stay at home and return to school only after being symptom free for 24 hours.
- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): Following a diagnosis of pink eye, a child may return to school 24 hours after the first dose of prescribed medication has been administered.
If you take your child to a healthcare provider for an illness, please be sure to request a written letter stating when your child may return to school.
Change of Clothing
Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students should bring a change of clothes in their backpack in case of restroom emergencies. Thank you!
Medication Administration
ALL Over-the-Counter meds must be new and unopened.
Medication is to be delivered and picked up by a parent or guardian and brought to the clinic in the original container labeled with child's name, name of the medication and directions for the time and dosage. Physician's name must be on prescription medication. Students may not carry medications - including cough drops.

Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Parents:
Your child brought home a 2019-20 Spelling Bee List earlier this month. All students will participate in the Classroom Qualifying Spelling Bee on Friday, Nov. 15, 2019 during their regular language arts class time, but it is not mandatory that they study the words. The list is provided for those who would like to try to qualify for our Campus Spelling Bee on Mon. Dec.16, 2019. In addition to being able to spell well, the student who goes on to represent us at the District Spelling Bee should be a role model, having good work habits and demonstrating L.E.A.D. behavior.
For those interested in the Campus Spelling Bee, here is the timeline:
Friday, Nov. 15

Mon. Dec. 16
Campus Spelling Bee - 4:30 pm in the Cafeteria

Yearbooks!
Parents and Staff: Did you know that you can share photos with us to be considered for use in our Millsap Elementary YEARBOOK?!
We try to photograph as many special days and events at our school as we can, but it's impossible for a Yearbook committee member to be there for everything. This is where you come in! Sharing is easy!
You can either share straight from your phone by downloading the Balfour Image Share App, or you can share from your computer by visiting www.images.balfour.com.

District News
Summary of Superintendent's Parent Committee Meeting from our PTO President:
Construction to renovate Millsap will begin in the summer of 2020 and all renovations should be complete by August of 2021. Funds for these renovations came from the 2014 & 2019 Bond.
House Bill 3 requires any school district that offers 1/2 day prekindergarten programs to offer Full-Day Prekindergarten programs. This program will be implemented in January 2020 at Millsap. The bill did not change the requirements to be eligible for prekindergarten.
Senate Bill 11 was a comprehensive school safety bill. Cy-Fair ISD is leading the way on school safety and has already implemented many of the measures outlined in the bill. There has been an increase of Cy-Fair law enforcement presence at all elementary schools. Cy-Fair police department has been trained in active shooter training and counselors and select administrators/teachers have been participated in mental health assessment training.
Other identification and intervention measures that are in place to keep our kids safe is the Cy-Fair Tipline, social media monitoring, additional counselors and threat assessment training . In January 2019 a Mental Health Intervention Team was created, whose mission is to promote and support the mental health and well-being of CFISD students, families, staff members and community through prevention, intervention, and safety. This team team consists of psychologists, counselors, and officers and they have been visiting all Cy-Fair campuses, including Millsap.
Crisis Response Teams, Safety & Security Committees, and School Messenger are a few of the ways Cy-Fair ISD will respond following an emergency. Elementary School Counselors and Principals/Assistant Principals have also received Threat of Harm: Assessment and Response training and Suicide Risk: Screening and Response Training. These training are ongoing.
Absence Notes
Please remember that whenever your child is absent, we must have a note from you explaining why the absence occurred.
All notes must include the child’s first and last name, the date of absence, the reason for the absence, and your signature. If you have a doctor’s excuse please attach it to your note.
Feel free to use the attached form and make copies for future use.
Thank you!
BOX TOPS ARE CHANGING!!
You’ll now download the new user-friendly Box Tops App, register, add Millsap Elementary, and then scan eligible receipts containing Box Tops products!
Millsap will earn 10 cents for each Box Tops product purchased plus extra earnings for any Bonus Box Tops opportunities. The app will automatically add Box Tops to Millsap's earnings online, giving visibility to see how you are supporting your school in real-time.
Keep clipping regular Box Tops and sending them to Millsap as long as you continue to find them on packages. We will still get credit for all Box Tops submitted!
More good news: you can ‘double dip’ during the packaging transition by clipping the physical Box Tops AND scanning your receipt with those participating items.
They seem like little things that really won’t make a difference, but they DO!
Since 2010, Millsap has received over $10,300 – a dime at a time!!
Millsap appreciates the time and effort you put into collecting BoxTops!
