General News!
Week of December 7-11:
There is definitely a feeling of "holiday excitement" in the air!...However, we do want to remind everyone that there are still two more full weeks of school left in this quarter/ semester.Parents, these last two weeks of the quarter will go by very quickly. Please take a moment to check PowerSchool with your student, and have them take advantage of the opportunities to get missing assignments completed and turned in ASAP. Remember that your student must achieve a semester average of at least 70% to be considered eligible for moving on to 9th grade. There are many students who currently do not meet this requirement.

Language Arts- Ms. Waxman
We have completed our novel, Behind Rebel Lines, but will take a closer look into the other women spies of the Civil War. The students will research a specific spy, and then share their information with a small group. After hearing about all these women they will use their narrative writing skills to share the adventures of one of them...a sort of "Day in the Life Of".
Our grammar focus this week is on "active and passive" sentences, and our roots are stll: “aud”, “phon” and "son". All of these deal with sound. A Study Stack link can be found in Google Classroom this week to give students an opportunity to study for the quiz on Thursday, along with the Research Term Vocabulary Quiz.
Reminder... your student should be reading something 20-30 minutes each night. This week's Book Fair might be a great place to find something interesting.
Math- Mrs. Holloway
This Week in Mathematics:
This week we are finishing up our unit on transversals and transformations. We are finishing an activity today and continuing a discussion on dilations and similar figures. Students will not have written homework tonight, but should be looking over all their notes/vocabulary on transversals and transformations. Students will have homework Tuesday through Thursday this week. I will be putting a unit review sheet in google classroom that they should begin working on. We will be taking the written response on Thursday for the Mastery Assessment and the multiple choice section on Friday. Please remind your student that the end of the quarter is next Friday and to stay focused and get work turned in. Let’s have a great week!
