LVES WEEKLY
2020-2021 Parent Newsletter
July 24, 2020 - Issue #1
Welcome to 2020-2021
Our goal every year is to build a strong school/home partnership with our families, and this year is no different. We will continue to make this year the best it can be given the current circumstances, and do what is in the best interest of all of our students, staff, and parents.
Thank you for your continued support of our teachers and staff, and for your patience and grace with us as we finalize (as much as we can) plans for this year. Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
Love,
Michelle Jackson

Instructional Election and Annual Registration Forms are in Ascender!
This form is a part of the regular annual registration process, which is being completed through Ascender Parent Portal. Please be sure to complete this by July 29, 2020. All families must complete the required registration and instructional setting form. The responses on the instructional setting form will help campus administration finalize plans for this year.
Here are the steps:
1. Log into Ascender Parent Portal at https://ascportal.esc13.net/ParentPortal/login?distid=227912.
2. Select your student's name, then click "Summary" and then "Registration".
3. Proceed through the series of forms (several are super quick information verification forms). The last form is where you will select your instructional setting.
NEED SPANISH?
All registration forms are in Spanish, as well. To proceed in Spanish, there is a dropdown menu at the upper righthand corner of the login page to switch to Spanish.
BUT, MY STUDENT'S GRADE-LEVEL IS WRONG!
Your student's grade-level has not yet been updated for 2020-2021. That will happen once we roll our systems over to the new year in a few weeks. When prompted on forms, however, please select the grade-level your student will be in for the 2020-2021 school year.
WHAT IF I HAVE A NEWLY ENROLLED STUDENT?
WHAT IF DON'T SEE MY ENROLLED STUDENT IN ASCENDER PARENT PORTAL?
If you enrolled your student during summer enrollment or don't see your enrolled student, an Ascender Parent Portal ID is needed in order to complete the annual registration forms. Once you receive your Ascender Parent Portal ID, please log in, select "Link to Enrolled Student", and enter the ID.
Please email your campus registrar and registration@lagovista.txed.net to receive your student's Ascender Parent Portal ID. Please note that there may be slight delays in answering requests during peak times, such as this, but we will get it to you as quickly as possible!
WHAT IF I SEE MY STUDENT, BUT DON'T HAVE A "REGISTRATION" OPTION?
In order to complete forms or update data for a student, the email address you have listed in Ascender Parent Portal must match what we have in our system. If you can see your student, but can't update any information, those email addresses do not match. We recommend updating and verifying your email address in Ascender Parent Portal. If you need us to change your email address in our system, please email registration@lagovista.txed.net and your campus registrar. You will be asked to provide your student's full name, date of birth, and grade level for verification purposes.

Remote Learning or Face-To-Face Learning?
Remote Learning:
- Lago Vista ISD is unable to offer a fully remote option for Pre-Kindergarten (once we are able to return to face-to-face instruction). However, in the event that a Pre-Kindergarten student must be excluded from instruction for a period of time due to confirmed or potential exposure to COVID-19, that student will continue to be supported by his/her classroom teacher throughout the period of exclusion. In the event of a classroom, campus, or district-wide shift to remote learning, Pre-Kindergarten students will participate in remote learning led by the classroom teacher.
- All students will be assigned an iPad to use in both the face-to-face and remote settings.
There will be at least one designated teacher for remote learning at each grade-level in K-3. Students whose parents select the remote option will be assigned to these designated teachers.
Remote learning times will follow the same schedule as the in-building times.
Teacher-created video lessons and assignments will be delivered in the designated LMS (Learning Management System) = Seesaw (PK-2) or Google Classroom (3).
There will be required daily teacher-student interaction via Google Meet.
The student will complete and turn in assignments through the grade-level LMS.
Teachers will structure the instructional day to ensure there are enough minutes devoted to each subject area, chunked into some synchronous (live) times and some asynchronous times.
The teacher will schedule one-on-one tutorials, guided learning groups, and intervention time weekly and as needed.
Daily attendance will be taken in txGradebook. According to the Texas Education Agency, being marked “present” for asynchronous instruction is determined daily by one of three methods: teacher interaction with a student; progress documented in the LMS; and/or an assignment completed and turned into the teacher.
Students will not receive direct instruction online for music, art, PE, and gifted and talented classes, but the District will provide teacher created video lessons and activities for these areas. Students may access these lessons after completing work in the core areas.
Face-To-Face Learning:
- Students in PK-3 classes will be self-contained with the same teacher.
- Class sizes will be reduced, and transitions in and out of the classroom will be limited.
- Individual classes will have one recess period during the day
- Lunch will be in the classroom.
All students will be issued a District-owned iPad to ensure that mobile devices are not shared between students and to ensure quick access to devices in the event of an unforeseen closure. Face-to-face students in grades PK-2 will only take assigned devices home when directed by the District (e.g., prior to extended breaks, if a closure appears eminent, etc.).
Both the remote and face-to-face experiences will:
Utilize the grade-level LMS (Learning Management System) = Seesaw (PK-2) or Google Classroom (3-5);
Provide similar expectations around coursework; and
Follow the same grading guidelines.
Classroom teachers will be provided with teacher created video lessons for music, art, PE, and gifted and talented classes. Students in grades K-3 will not receive face-to-face instruction in these areas.
If you wish to move your child from remote learning to face-to-face learning, you have the option to do that at the end of a nine-week grading period. Please know that moving your child from one instructional setting to another may result in your child being placed with another teacher.
Face Masks for LVES Employees and Students
- When entering and leaving the building (arrival and dismissal);
- Transitioning outside of the classroom (to use the hallway restroom or lining up for recess),
- While riding the school bus,
- At times when social distancing may not be possible (reading groups, intervention groups).
All teachers and staff will be required to wear face masks at all times during the day.
Individual exceptions to the mask requirements in PK-3 will be made for those with a documented medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a face covering. Current medical documentation must be provided to the campus principal to qualify for an exception. Please know that local guidelines regarding masks/face coverings may be adjusted to ensure compliance with an order of the Governor of Texas or to regulations from the Texas Education Agency.
