Final Exams Information
Final Exams:
Students return to class on Tuesday, January 5th and will continue to use their first semester schedule at this time. We will run our final exam schedule January 12-15. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday(of Finals) will be a full day, but Friday, January 15th will be a half day. Our class schedule for those four days will change in order to accommodate for final exams. Please see the attached Final Exam Schedule for details. Our schedule is altered in order to allow for enough time to complete each assessment and provide review blocks on the day previous to the final exam. Information regarding specific classroom assessments will be provided to students by their individual teachers.
Final Exam Exemptions:
We will be offering final exam exemptions this year, despite some of the attendance difficulties we have faced throughout the semester due to COVID-19. In years past, there has been an application process for students to complete in order to participate in the exemption due to the fact that these exemptions have been tied to our attendance incentives. Because our attendance incentives have been impacted by a variety of COVID-19 related issues, there will not be an attendance incentive or an application process this year. Instead, individual classroom teachers will report students who are exempting their final exams to administration no later than the end of the day on January 6th.
Important Reminders Regarding Final Exam Exemptions:
- For a variety of reasons, not all teachers will choose to allow students to exempt their final exam. Ultimately, each teacher will decide whether or not their class is eligible for the final exemption policy.
- In order for students to participate in final exam exemptions, they should have an A in the course designated by a grade of 90% or better.
- Additionally, students exempting finals should have no major discipline for the semester. This is defined as no more than four detentions, no Saturday Campus detentions, and no ISS or OSS during the semester of the requested exemption.
- Students will need to receive approval for the exemption from their teacher. Teachers will then report students exempting the final for their class to the attendance office for reporting purposes.
- Students exempting a final exam are not required to attend class during the time of that exam. Students not attending class during the final should make arrangements to leave campus and sign out at the attendance office prior to leaving. Students remaining on campus during their exemption should simply report to class as normal.
- If a student is exempting both final exams on a given day, that student may choose to stay home for the entire school day. They will still have the ability to log in to class for their review blocks if necessary.
- Students exempting one final exam during a given day are still expected to be in classes either before or after that exemption. Students exempting the last final of the day and leaving campus do not have to return for the review block at the end of that day.
- Students electing to leave campus during final exams must turn in a signed parent permission form to the attendance office no later than Thursday, January 7th. Permission forms will be available for students in the main office beginning January 5th.
- Absences that result from final exam exemptions will not count against building attendance incentives, Renaissance, perfect attendance, eligibility to participate in athletic events, and second semester attendance criteria for final exam exemption (if applicable).
