Academic Updates
Math
We are continuing our unit on Volume and Measurement this week. Your students have been practicing finding the volume of rectangular prisms (boxes) by multiplying the length x width x volume. They have discovered that if they know two of these dimensions and the volume, they can solve for the other dimension by using division. We will continue practicing these skills, particularly in real world problems, this week.
Language Arts
Our focus this week will be on the district writing performance task. Students will be reading several passages in preparation for writing their informative essay. We have been working on research and informative writing skills in class, including outlining, writing thesis statements, citing or paraphrasing information from resources to avoid plagiarism, and citing sources. I have been so impressed with the growth they have shown in their writing this year!
Science
Splash Lab will be a culminating activity for our unit on Water and Weather. We will then be taking a short break from Science to focus on Social Studies.
Social Studies
Our next Social Studies unit will focus on the Articles of Confederation as the first "document" setting forth our form of government. We will study the problems with the Articles of Confederation, and how those deficiencies led to the writing of the U.S. Constitution and the formation of our 3-branch system of government.
