A Note From Mr. Beinstein, Principal at Western Middle School
Good Day Past and Future WMS Families,
A friendly reminder to have your voice heard regarding the rebuilding of our field, either via email, in person, or both! I NEED our community to both flood the inbox of Jeff Wilcox from the state AND pack the auditorium on the evening of January 11th with voices of support. The state needs to hear that the Western community is behind this work. Access to quality fields for our kids depends on your active participation in this process!
I am asking each of you to:
Provide written feedback to: Jeff.wilcox@ct.gov
Show up in droves on January 11th, or attend virtually: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86572888389
I would love to see as many people in person as possible. A full auditorium would send a strong message!
SPEAK during the public comment section on January 11th. There is an informational session from 6:00-6:45pm in the WMS gymnasium with staff from the environmental agencies as well our partners, AECOM and Langan. At 7:00pm we will adjourn to the auditorium for a brief presentation and public comment. There will be a signup sheet outside the auditorium for those who wish to speak that evening.
I have provided some speaking/writing points to assist.
Impacts:
It's been 6 years without field access. No sports at all. Limited physical education space.
Our kids have been shipped all over town to play
Negatively impacted their middle school experience…unequal access compared to other schools in town
(If you have a personal experience, I would highlight it i.e.: my kid had to practice and play field hockey on a softball field 15 minutes from school)
Looking forward to:
A safe, state of the art field for school and town
Something this side of town can be proud of
Will significantly improve field access for entire town, youth through high school, multiple sports
Also, feel free to cc me on all correspondences: gordon_beinstein@greenich.k12.ct.us
Here is an updated fact sheet with additional information.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions at gordon_beinstein@greenwich.k12.ct.us and I hope to see you on January 11th!
I'll likely follow up again with another reminder early next week. I hope you find my persistence an endearing quality…my wife has a different perspective!
That’s it for now...have a great week and weekend!
Gordon
Gordon
New Parent Chat dates and great resources for you at home - Pre-K, K, and 1st Families Welcome!
Dear Families,
We realize that raising a young child can provide you with many challenges. It is our hope to support you by providing regularly scheduled “Parent Chats” giving us all the opportunity to share successes and challenges we are experiencing at home.
My role as an Early Childhood Specialist and Parent Educator is to facilitate and support you in developing strategies to help you and your child at home. We will provide you with lots of resources and ideas that are easily used at home.
Come listen to other parents who are dealing with many of the same challenges and find ways to make life easier at home!
Topics can include, but are not limited to:
*Why doesn't my child listen to me?
*How should I respond when my child does not listen to me?
*Why won’t my child go to bed?
*Why will my child only eat chicken nuggets and fries?
*How can I get my children to stop fighting?
*Why can’t we seem to get out of the house in the morning?
*How can I support my child’s learning at home?
*How can I help my child learn to calm down when they are feeling big emotions?
Each chat will be an hour long and include a specific topic based on input from all of you with 20 minutes at the end to tackle other challenges you bring to us that day.
Please let me know if you would like a translator to be available. A google meet link can be set up if you would like to join remotely. Please email me to let me know.
Parent Chat- New Lebanon Media Center (Maker Space)
Monday, Jan. 30th, 8:30-9:30am

Beth Forger
