Late Arrivals
It may seem like your child is not missing anything by arriving late because we are "just on the playground." Our outside time is considered part of the school day and it is super important as a transition into the classroom. They need that big body play and the social interactions without "restraint."
Whether you are going to be late or if you're not coming at all, I am asking that everyone contact me via Remind by no later than 8:30am. Do not call the office. I have to send in the food counts for the day. Changing those counts is difficult.
Thank you!
Checking out books from WoW's Lending Library
These books can be read by any family member to your student. As you know, multiple readings of the same book greatly improve literacy skills for children.
Here is how this will work:
- Books will be DUE on Thursday each week,
- A new book will be checked out on Thursday
- Students are allowed to have TWO books checked out at the same time
- Students may NOT check out any more books until those are returned
- However, if the two books have not been returned, a book can be selected for the classroom library but it will not go home.
- There will be a Name Card in a pocket for the book, this must stay in the pocket
- If a book is lost or damaged, we ask that it be replaced with a gently-used book from your home library. Do not buy a new book (our library consists of donations)
Happy Reading!
Paw Meeting: Wednesday, Oct 19, 9:00-10:15am
Below are the guidelines we (GSRP) are required to follow for Birthdays and Holidays.
Holidays/birthdays are very special occasions which many children and families enjoy. GSRP classroom staff will plan activities that are appropriate and meet the GSRP goals and requirements and respect the values and traditions of all children and families in the program. No one is ever excluded due to their beliefs or practices.
Classrooms will not participate in traditional holiday/birthday parties. In place of holiday/birthday parties, teachers could plan and implement some of the ideas listed below with input from families and children.
Allowable Celebration Ideas
Demonstrations
Discussions
Ethnic Food
Stories
Guest Speakers
Hands-On Educational Activities
Healthy Snack
Finger Plays, Songs and Dances
Invite families to provide photographs, songs, and stories about their child
Ask children and families to share how they celebrate holidays/birthdays
Unallowable ideas for celebrating holidays in a GSRP classroom
Trick or Treat
Dress up in costumes
Sugary Treats – Cupcakes, Cookies, Candy
Display traditional holiday decorations
Plan projects/studies that focus solely on a particular holiday
Plan a visit from Santa/Easter Bunny
Exchange Christmas gifts in the classroom
Hold an Easter egg hunt
Yes, that means we cannot do birthday parties, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, etc.
How is the hunt for WINTER mittens going?
The transition from fall hand protection to winter hand protection is coming soon
You may have to go to non-traditional stores to find these. They might not have them at places like Target, Walmart, or Meijer. Try Dunhams, or one of the farm stores. If you order them online, make sure they are not toddler size; they will be much too small (for most of the kids).
As part of the transition to winter, please reference this chart for our policy of when we will or will not go outside.
School Board Candidates
Have you had a chance to learn more about the candidates? There are THREE seats open this term.
There are six candidate to look into for these seats:
- Keith Reynolds - running for re-election (current President), unable to interview with MEA
- Nicholas Lecea - running for re-election (current trustee), completed interview with MEA
- Ashley Prew, completed interview with MEA
- Renee Juhl, completed interview with MEA
- Mike Pearce, completed interview with MEA
- Rachelle Edmunds, declined interview with MEA
- What are the candidates ideas and positions? Most of them have Facebook campaign pages. Search the name followed by "Fenton School Board"
- Do they have school board experience?
- Do they have educator experience?
- Did they interview with MEA (Michigan Education Association)?
- Did they get an MEA endorsement (can be found on the MEA website)?
More information on the Fenton School Board can be found here https://www.fentonschools.org/page/board-of-education
Also on the ballot will the the renewal of the Sinking Fund for FAPS.
Some important things to note:
- this will not raise your taxes
- it is vital funding needed for operations so that we are not dipping into the General Fund dollars.
