Welcome ALC 2 Participants!
let us prepare for an amazing experience
Welcome to ALC Family ;)
When I was a university student, I also participated in many international youth exchange programs, volunteers programs and youth conferences. I lived with many international participants, learned together, played together and cannot remember how many times I stayed up for ever-lasting midnight conversations. This experience surely changed my life.
Of course, I encountered many cultural differences I had never imagined. Sometimes, it was challenging not to get too emotional or judgmental. However, eventually, we built a rapport and realized the joy of getting to know each other over differences. I am sure you are going to go through similar process at ALC, too. Here are some examples of mine:
Friends from Mauritius
What does it mean to be religious?
Are we using the same clock?
So, how can you prepare for ALC?
Progress Log

ALC TEAM
This year ALC 2 is delighted to have 25 students from Mainland China, 24 from Japan, and 21 from Taiwan! We also have 6 talented students who will be your coordinators, and myself.
We will plan activities, help you with your daily lives, and be your friends when you come to Stanford. Please read about us on the ALC website. The program is also supported by Christy Inhulsen and Kazutoh Ishida. Kazutoh is the Senior Stanford Program Director, and is currently out in East Asia, so you may have met him if you attended orientation. Christy Inhulsen is the Cross-Cultural & Leadership Director and has already been in touch with you by email. Your team is looking forward to meeting you!
ENGLISH CLASS
I strongly suggest that you email Robyn at rbrinks@stanford.edu to get advice about how to select your topic.
ACTIVITIES
The ALC 2 coordinators, assistant and I are in the process of planning activities for you. The calendar will be online in early July, so please check back then.
Next week, I will send another email that will include information about how to reserve tickets for optional activities like the musical and baseball game. These activities have all been very popular among participants every year, so please make sure to check your email and don't miss the deadline!
Feel free to email me at hirona@viaprograms.org with any activity requests that you did not write about in your essays. My team and I will do our best to find places and activities to match your interests!
I cannot wait to see you all at Stanford!
