LITR320
Week 2
Modernism
This week we are focusing on the literary movement called Modernism.
Modernism was a reaction to the strictness and oppression people lived under during the Victorian Era. One of the ways in which we can see the restrictive nature of the Victorian Era is by taking a look at the clothing of the time period. If you're interested, check this site out: http://trulyvictorian.com/history.html
Modernism is a period marked by an increased interest in breaking away from expectations and a deepening concern with the individual rather than society as a whole. Modernist writers showed very little concern for nature and felt that there was an increasing alienation of the individual who was surrounded by decay.
