Morris County Middle School Leadership Award - EMS, 2024
Eisenhower Middle School Selects Andrew "AJ" Montrose for the 2024 Morris County Middle School Leadership Award!
Each year, Eisenhower Middle School participates in the Morris County Middle School Leadership Award (MCMSLA) program. This award seeks to identify 8th grade students throughout the county that “represent a model of citizenship and leadership in their respective school community.”
This year, 12 students were nominated for consideration at Eisenhower Middle School:
Team 8-1: Michelle Rodriguez, Stamatina Mousis, Emma Millus and Cora Schwam
Team 8-2: Emma Feind, Ann Eapen, Noah Johannesen, Matthew Schaefer
Team 8-3: AJ Montrose, Salma Zidan, Abby Mastrian and Ethan Pineiro
Eisenhower's faculty and staff have completed their review of the merits and information provided in each anonymized application. Votes have been tallied, and after yet another extremely close race, we are pleased to announce that Andrew "AJ" Montrose from Team 8-3 & Team 7-3 is Eisenhower Middle School’s 2024 recipient of the Morris County Middle School Leadership Award.
AJ is known for being a a well-rounded student, athlete, and musical performer, as well as a budding entrepreneur. He's being celebrated for his strong academic performance, participation in athletics and performing arts programs, and active involvement in local organizations such as the Roxbury Fire Department and St. Baldrick’s Knights of the Bald Table. In fact, over the past 8 years AJ has helped raise more than $10,000 towards St. Baldrick's fight against childhood cancer. No surprise, he plans to shave his head once again for the cause this year. AJ also likes camping with his family, singing in various school and community choirs, and designing custom sneakers for local clients.
While reflecting on his time at EMS, and looking ahead towards high school and beyond, AJ shared the following thoughts in his MCMSLA application:
My career goal is to become a social studies teacher and volunteer firefighter in Roxbury, similar to Mr. Kovach who started working at EMS this year. I would like to stay in Roxbury because the community is very tight-knit and I already have ties to the fire department. The school staff is amazing. Not only the teaching staff but also the custodial, transportation, counseling, and many other people who keep the district running smoothly. I would also like to help coach the football team because they have a great program focused on TEMPO (Tradition, Energy, Mindset, Passion, and Dedication). All of the coaches want to motivate their players to improve. Mr. Spargo is a great example of of always encouraging people and wanting the best for them.
Congratulations again, AJ. We are fortunate to have you as part of the EMS family, and know you will continue to make Roxbury proud for many years to come!
