Library Lessons
Trading Cards
Fourth grade students worked in teams to research notable explorers and create trading cards which they presented to their classmates.
Light & Shadow
First graders learned about light and shadow and made Lego structures with opaque and translucent bricks to make interesting shadows in the sunlight.
Keller Biography
Third grade students listened to Helen's Big World and identified character traits of Helen Keller and Annie Sullivan. They made braille bookmarks with small dots of glue.
Escape from the Library
Fifth grade students solved four puzzles relating to Elements of Fiction and used a decoder for each to complete a response-dependent Google form to Escape from the Library! The puzzles involved defining literary terms, labeling a plot diagram, giving examples of figurative language and classifying types of conflict.
Classifying Conflict
Students classified types of conflict (i.e. man vs. man, man vs. self; man vs. society, etc.) in one of four puzzles in a fiction themed "Escape Room."
We Escaped!!
These two teams successfully escaped from the library by solving four puzzles relating to elements of fiction and entering their responses in a Google Form that would only accept the correct code words.
Figurative Language
Students defined types of figurative language and cited examples of each in one Escape Room challenge.
