A Great First Week!
Important Information
Espark Begins on September 11!
Esark is up and ready for your students to begin their first quests in both ELA and Math. Students should spend 45 minutes on Espark in Math and 45 minutes in ELA per week. If you need support, please feel free to reach out to Melissa Troiano. Using Espark as part of a center rotation or in a small group format is a great way to begin!

Students at Burgard Ready for School to Begin!
STAR and Compass Connection for Differentiation
With STAR going on across K-8, the connector between STAR & Compass is active and working for this year. Once the assessments are complete, Compass will go out and grab the data each night and create automatic learning paths for all of the students. It is available to EVERY student and EVERY teacher… even if the teacher hasn’t set up a class yet, the students can still log in and do the Learning Path activities that are automatically created by STAR.
This is a tremendous tool for the teachers to leverage… It is data-based, differentiated, and AUTOMATED (less work for you to do!). Almost every activity will work perfectly on the iPad, but occasionally some will not function because they have yet to be converted from Flash to HTML5, but that process is ongoing and there are fewer and fewer Flash-driven activities each day. There's no need to come up with all these differentiated activities on your own!
Reading Specialists and Assistants Receive Dibels' Next Refresher Training
All the reading specialists and their assistants received DIBELS Next' Refresher Training this week. This allowed the SWAT team to administer the assessment with validity and reliability. The team did a wonderful job and were able to complete all of Burgard's assessments in just two days! They will be at Doe Run on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Classroom Teachers Receive New 2017 Version of IRLA's
All classroom teachers should have received 2017 versions of the IRLS's. All students need to be assessed this year using the current IRLA. You can go into School Pace to see where your students left off at the end of the year. With the summer slide, it is necessary to re-assess each student. Using their previous leveling can give you information as to where to begin your current assessment. All students should be assessed by September 26th which is the date that books should begin going home with students. All students are completing two steps at school and one step at home.
