4th Grade
Math News
We are excited to start a new module this week. Module 4 focuses on geometry and angle measurement. There's lots of new vocabulary that students have not encountered before in previous grades. Here's what our week will look like:
Monday: Module 4 Lesson 1
Identify and draw points, lines, line segments, rays, and angles and recognize them in various contexts and familiar figures.
Tuesday: Module 4 Lesson 2
Use right angles to determine whether angles are equal to, greater than, or less than right angles. Draw right, obtuse, and acute angles.
Wednesday: Module 4 Lesson 3
Identify, define, and draw perpendicular lines.
Thursday: Module 4 Lesson 4
Identify, define, and draw parallel lines.
Friday: Module 4 Lesson 5
Use a circular protractor to understand a 1-degree angle as 1/360 of a turn. Explore benchmark angles using the protractor.
Reader's Workshop
This week we are stepping out of the reader's workshop units. We are using the book Frog and Toad to work on many key reading skills such as envisioning, comparing and contrasting, determining theme, and improving fluency. Students will also be rewriting the short stories into plays that they will rehearse on Friday. I can't wait!
Writer's Workshop
This week we are fine-tuning our persuasive essays. We are finishing our drafts then going back to revise and edit. Many writers are working on correcting run-on sentences, while other writers are working on adding specific facts to make their argument stronger. Our pieces will be published on Friday.
Holiday Fun
We had a lot of fun in our classroom before the holiday break. We participated in a mug exchange where each student received a mug filled with goodies from a friend. We had delicious sweets and even reorganized our desks and classroom library. I hope everyone had a relaxing break!
