Cardington Elementary School
Home of the Pirates!
Principal's Notes
As we just concluded our second term, it grows ever more critical to continue to help your little pirate with their at home reading practice. Before we blink, we will be wrapping up this school year and every minute of reading and vocabulary practice our students receive adds up to make a tremendous difference at the end of the year! If you have any questions or need resources, please contact your classroom teacher or myself and we will do the best we can to help drive through these long winter days with quality reading materials!
Preschool screenings for the 2022-2023 school year will be held on March 11, 2022 and April 8, 2022. Please contact Anita at the Elementary School, 419-864-6692 Option 2, to schedule a preschool screening. If you are planning to enroll your student in Cardingtons preschool program, you will need to bring all enrollment records with you on the scheduled screening day. Online enrollment for preschool can be accessed after March 1, 2022 here: Enrollment Link.

What is Mental Health? (Taken from MentalHealth.gov)
Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.
Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behavior could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
- Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
- Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
- Family history of mental health problems

Locally, we have many resources available to help with a variety of needs. These are easily accessible through Google, and I have a list of local resources I can provide as well. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have questions or are interested in more information!
Finally, if you're an Ohio State fan (or even if you're not), Coach Ryan Day has opened up about his struggles with his own mental health, as well as the importance it plays not only in his life, but in those of his athletes. Check out the video below!
