Letter from Fr. Pedersen
Dear Parishioners,
This past Tuesday evening, March 12th, I had a heart attack beginning sometime after 4:00pm. At the time I attributed my experience with having heartburn since I had not eaten well that day. I went to bed that evening to rest. The next morning, I was sluggish and had some residual pain in my right shoulder and upper chest. Following morning Mass and Lauds on Wednesday, March 13th, I shared my experience with some parishioners and our Business Administrator, Mary Daugherty. They all urged me to go to Urgent Care to have things checked out. After doing a Last Rites call, I did follow their counsel and went to Urgent Care, where they took an Echocardiogram, or EKG. The results came back abnormal, and they advised me to go to the ER. I drove myself to the ER that afternoon where they drew blood and checked for the enzyme known as Troponin which indicates heart issues. Troponin was present so they sent me to the Cath Lab where I had an angiogram. During that procedure they found 100% blockage in my left anterior descending artery.
I was conscious as the doctor and his team performed the angiogram and angioplasty that led to them successfully placing the stent. Initially, after seeing the blockage, the doctor said it would be difficult to successfully place the stent. As they continued their work, I prayed a rosary and asked the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes and the mercy of Our Lord Jesus Christ, that the care team would be successful in placing the stent in order to get that artery flowing again. From there I was sent to the Cardio ICU as they continued treatment.
The good news is that my care team was able to find the issue, place the stent, get that artery working again, and my heart has responded accordingly. They performed an ultrasound on my heart and some additional EKG tests on Thursday, March 14th. That same day my EKG reading came back normal. My care team is happy with my progress, and I don’t anticipate having any major surgery. I am no longer in the cardiac ICU and will soon start the cardio rehab as early as today to make sure I can perform the physical activity necessary to come home and return to active duty.
I ask for your prayers for me as well as a number of our parishioners with ongoing health challenges. Their names can be found in our weekly bulletin. If you offer a Rosary for us all or spend some time before Our Lord in the Sacred Heart Chapel, or pray in the manner you are accustomed too, I would be ever so grateful. I hope to return soon, following doctors' orders, of course.
Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Fr. Bryan J.B. Pedersen

Need help paying for tuition?
MN Fundraising Initiative (MNFI) secures contracts with over 23 venues in the greater Twin Cities area including Target Field, Target Center, Canterbury, and US Bank to operate food and beverage concessions stands at their events.
MNFI organizes teams of volunteers from all over the state of MN and WI who work together to run these stands. In turn, MNFI receives donations from these venues. The donations are then used to award grants to families in local communities to allow youth to attend private school, such as Sacred Heart Catholic School and participate in enrichment activities they may not otherwise be able to enjoy. Checks are mailed directly to Sacred Heart in your name.
Many of our school families use this organization to help pay for tuition.
