March Already?
I hope that this communication finds everyone well. It is hard to believe that today marks the first day of March, and if you are like me, you are hoping for warm weather and an early Spring. I want to thank all the parents who attended our virtual meeting on Wednesday evening for our "Minding Your Mind" event. For those who could not participate, our speaker met with our students this past Monday during an assembly presented to all three grade levels. The purpose of the assembly was to aid students in identifying any potential mental health struggles, such as anxiety and depression, and to provide coping skills and resources on how to deal with such issues. Please see the link provided to the organization if you have more questions: https://mindingyourmind.org/

Advisory
Our sixth-grade students focused on a lesson about Cooperation and Respect. In order to respect others, students must be able to work together and cooperate. Cooperation can have different meanings when working on a project in school, engaging in a family activity, or even helping within a community. However, in each scenario communication and respect are key components to working together and cooperating. Our sixth graders practiced this skill in two ways. Be sure to ask your child how it worked out with the writing of their word.
In seventh grade, students discussed Digital Citizenship. Technology is a tool that can have many positive aspects as well as negative impacts. This lesson focused on the importance of understanding that what you post can be seen by anyone and never goes away, even when applying for college or a job. It is important to remember that posts online may be viewed differently by people who don’t know you, and what sort of implications this may have. Ask your child to share what happened to the media company’s recent hire.
As we approach the end of the end of Black History Month, our eighth graders continued to learn about the story behind Black History Month. Through our TSI (The Social Institute) platform, students explored black history’s impact and today’s trail blazers that are shaping our world. The lesson also highlighted the importance of treating each other with kindness and respect regardless of our background.
