FAMILY APPRECIATION STALL - INCORPORATING MOTHER’S DAY AND FATHER’S DAY
Week 7 saw the highly anticipated combined Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Family Appreciation Stall, where students had the opportunity to purchase something for their parents or special loved ones. This year’s stall was run by our school leaders, who all did a fantastic job. A big thank you again to Loren and Bronwyn who coordinated the event from outside the school gates and did an amazing job for our school, students and community. Also thank you to Ms Seymour who assisted the school leaders throughout the day.
Staff News
We have lots of exiting news to share for a number of our staff over the last few weeks.
Miss Mulrooney
Miss Hayley Mulrooney a week and a half ago became Mrs Banzon after getting married at a beautiful location down on the South Coast. Congratulations to Mrs Banzon and her husband on a very special time in their lives.
Mrs Vella
Congratulations to Mrs Holly Vella, who last week had her third baby – baby Hannah Vella arrived on Tuesday 1 September 2020 and has two very proud older sisters and proud dad Trent who are smitten over their newest arrival.
Mrs Rolfe
This Wednesday will be Mrs Sarah Rolfe’s last day before going onto maternity leave. Mrs Rolfe is due to have her third child on the last day of term. We wish her all the very best during this exciting time for her and her growing family.
Mrs Lake
Mrs Julie Lake, our School Teacher-Librarian has decided that she will be retiring at the upcoming school holidays. Mrs Lake has been on extended leave since March, but has decided that the upcoming holidays will bring to an end her long career with the Department of Education. We are hoping that later this year we can recognise this achievement, but for now we wish Mrs Lake all the very best as she leaves the teaching profession and enters retirement.
MURAL
Our amazing mural is finally complete after a long, drawn out process that should have taken about four days, but took close to two months due to weekend weather! I know Ms Phillips has written a report later in the newsletter (with pics!), but I wanted to acknowledge the combined effort of our SRC, P&C and school, as well as the leadership of Ms Phillips, in seeing this worthwhile project through to completion.
Birthdays
Since our school went into online learning late in Term 1, we have asked families not to bring in treats for days such as birthday celebrations. While I know this has been disappointing for some students, we felt that it was in the best interests of student safety. With conditions remaining stable for some time now, we feel comfortable with again allowing this to occur. If you would like to bring something in to celebrate your child’s birthday, you may now do this, though please ensure that treats are separately packaged for individual distribution (Freddo Frogs, Chupa Chups, for example).
As always, if you are thinking of doing this, please ensure you speak with your child’s classroom teacher prior to the day, to cater, where necessary for those with allergies, etc. We do have students in the school with nut allergies and we ask that you avoid sending any food containing traces of nuts.
For those students who have missed out on celebrating their birthday, on the last day of term (Friday 25 September) classes will be having a class party. Students can bring in something that again, is separately packaged to celebrate the end of term as well as a post birthday celebration for those that may have missed out. More information will be distributed closer to the date.
P&C MEETING REMINDER
Our next P&C meeting will be on Wednesday 9 September at 6:30pm, via Zoom. All are warmly invited to attend to listen and/or participate as you wish.
We hope to see you there!
Tell Them From Me - Parent Survey
This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.
Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/fz9sn
The survey is available in 23 languages.
Enjoy your week!

Completed Mural
We are very pleased to share with you our completed mural! We are extremely pleased with how it has turned out and it certainly brightens our playground. We gave our initial ideas to Brode from Blackbook Ink and we are thrilled with how he used those to design and create our mural.
The SRC would like to thank Mr Fisher and Woonona PS for supporting us with this huge project. We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Woonona P&C for supporting us too, without their help we would not have our possum wall, which we love.
We hope you will love the finished works as much as we do.
A very happy,
Ms Phillips, Miss Lambert and the SRC.
