Fairview Falcon Family Newsletter
October 2022
From the Principal
Happy Fall! As we begin October, hopefully the weather will continue to feel Fall-like, as well. Please remember to pack those jackets and tennis shoes most days. Dressing your child in layers is also a good suggestion to follow as we maneuver autumn in Missouri.
There are a lot of exciting things happening at Fairview this month– including the Fairview Fever Festival. Please be sure to read this entire newsletter so that you’re up to date on all the latest!
Please know that in November, we’ll be having our first round of parent teacher conferences. We will offer both in-person and Zoom options. Our 2 main evenings for conferences will be November 15th and 17th.
- On November 15th, we will prioritize families who require English interpretive services. Other conferences may still be scheduled on this date.
- On November 17th, we will prioritize families who have multiple children attending Fairview. Other conferences may still be scheduled on this date.
Be on the lookout for an early October email from me that will ask you for your preference and availability for conferences.
Thank you,
Dr. Simmons, Principal

Specialist Updates
From The Gym
Hello Fairview Families 😊
Another note from the gym! Classes are slowly, but surely, working their way back into the routines. I’ve been proud of their effort. With the older kids we’ve been playing “Boomshakala”, “Battleship”, and “Super Bowl”. With the younger kids we’ve been playing “Musical Hoop Round Up” and some bowling games. Just this week everyone has been working on different activities and skills in stations set up around the gym. Be sure to ask your kids what’s going on!
Please continue to email or send in photos of your kiddos in action! I’ve received a few and put them up on the bulletin board.
Finally, PLEASE help your kiddos remember their tennis shoes. There have been some situations where kids must sit out of some activities because of unsafe footwear. Might as well wear them every day, I do!!
As always, thank you for your continued support. Hope to see you at the Fever Fest!
Sincerely,
Mr. Wright
From the Art Room:
Art update: In art class ,students have finished up their Non-Objective works of art and 1st- 5th grade have uploaded them to SeeSaw. All classes participated in a “Dot Day” artwork inspired by the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds which are displayed in the hallway and most classes have read the other two books in the series, Ish and Sky Color.
In the next several weeks, students will be learning about and creating Landscapes! Please reach out with any questions- lrobb@cpsk12.org
From the Media Center
Media Center News: During checkout, students continue to explore the wide variety of books in our library, as well as practice library procedures. Besides introducing new books, we have looked at fiction/non-fiction books and a variety series. We have talked about finding a great book that students want to read. Students are learning about our Missouri Award Books for this year: Kindergarten are listening to the Building Block Award books, 1st-2nd hear the Show-Me Readers Award books, 3rd graders learn about the Great Kids Can Read Award, and 4th-5th are watching book trailers about each of the Mark Twain Readers Award books. There will be opportunities to vote on their favorites later this year!

Technology Specials
We have been busy in the computer lab the last several weeks. Along with working on their keyboarding skills, the upper grades have been learning about and refreshing their research skills using Electronic Library. Younger grades have been working on their keyboarding skills as well, with kindergarten learning the basics of using a computer.
We have begun to discuss digital citizenship and ways to be responsible when we are using electronic devices. We are off to a great start!

From the Music Room
We have had a great start to the year in the music room! Students in all grade levels have been singing and moving each and every time they come to music. Grades 1-5 have spent a lot of time playing xylophones while kindergarteners have been learning the basics of our non-pitched percussion instruments. Most grade levels have also been celebrating Hispanic Heritage month through listening and dancing activities.
