Facilitators' Findings
As we gear up to finish up the school year, we'd like to take a moment to emphasize the importance of bike safety on school property.
With the number of cars, pedestrians, bikes, and e-bikes arriving and exiting our campus each day, it's crucial that we all prioritize safety, especially when navigating sidewalks. It's essential to be mindful of pedestrians and other cyclists, particularly on school grounds where foot traffic can be high.
We kindly ask that all cyclists, especially those riding e-bikes, exercise caution and refrain from riding on school property. Instead, please walk your bikes when traversing sidewalks and the parking lot, ensuring the safety of pedestrians and fellow students.
By practicing responsible bike etiquette, we can create a safer and more inclusive environment for everyone in our school community. Let's work together to make sure our school grounds are a place where everyone feels comfortable and secure.
Additionally, we encourage all cyclists to wear helmets and adhere to traffic rules when riding to and from school. By working together to promote bike safety, we can ensure that everyone enjoys their journey to school while minimizing the risk of accidents or injuries.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe and thriving.
Now, click on the Design Facilitators picture to watch the greatest, most fabulous, most amazing, most awesome scene of slow dancing on bikes every made. Ever.

April is National Poetry Month
Mr. Bobby taught English Literature for many years, so he loves to celebrate National Poetry Month. Below is one of his favorite poems by Percy Shelley, "Ozymandias." Click the photo to hear it read by Bryan Cranston.
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

Equitable Spaces
Sikh Awareness Month, typically observed in April, is a time dedicated to increasing understanding and awareness of Sikhism and its principles. During this month, various educational events, community gatherings, and outreach programs are organized to promote dialogue and foster cultural appreciation. It serves as an opportunity for Sikhs to share their rich heritage, traditions, and contributions with people from diverse backgrounds. One of the major religious celebrations of the Sikh is Vaisakhi.
Vaisakhi, also known as Baisakhi, holds immense cultural and religious significance for the Sikh community. Celebrated predominantly in the Punjab region of India and by Sikh diaspora worldwide, Vaisakhi marks the creation of the Khalsa Panth, the Sikh community of initiated members, by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, in 1699. This festival is observed on the first day of the Vaisakh month in the Sikh calendar, which usually falls on April 13 or 14 in the Gregorian calendar.
Vaisakhi is a time of joyous festivities, colorful processions, and vibrant celebrations. Sikhs visit gurdwaras (Sikh temples) for special prayers, kirtan (devotional singing), and langar (community meals). The day also symbolizes the harvest festival in Punjab, marking the beginning of the agricultural year. Beyond its religious significance, Vaisakhi serves as an occasion for Sikhs to reaffirm their commitment to the values of equality, service, and justice, as taught by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.
Wishing everyone a joyous Vaisakhi!

Lofty Ideas
Before we left for spring break, We kicked off National Poetry Month this week. Our younger designers listened to Kiyoshi’s Walk and pondered where poetry comes from. Others explored Change Sings and compared music and poetry. Lastly, we explored the poems Remember and The Hill We Climb with older designers.

Redundant Repetitious Reiterating Repeated Recurrent Routine Reminders
Please see the flyer below for information about the D39C 2023-2024 Yearbook, including ordering information.
Attendance and OCIS Contracts: If you have a student who will not be in class for 5-14 days, please notify the office so we can have the parents fill out an OCIS contract for their child. The forms will have to be completed and signed by parents 5-10 days in advance of the absence. Click here for a link to the OCIS Contract.
Parents are required to give 5 days notice for absences up to 5 days, 10 days notice for absences more than 5 days.
Prepping work for students who are absent is an incredible amount of work for our teaching staff and we ask that you give your child’s teacher as much advance notice as possible beyond the above guidelines.
We do not write contracts beyond 14 days. If you plan to be away for 15 or more days please contact the Welcome Center for the necessary procedures.
Would you like to become a part of the Design39Campus Team? Do you like to be outside and work with children? If so, we are looking for a few quality Motion Managers to help support our designers during body breaks and lunch during the middle of the day. Possible times are 10:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. or 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. If interested, please apply through Poway Unified School District at the this link.
Attendance: To report your child's absence or early checkout, please email the attendance office at d39cattendance@powayusd.com before 10:00 am on the day of the absence. Please include your child's name, homeroom/grade, dates of absence, and reason for absence. We kindly ask that you avoid checking out your student during the lunch period from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. Please refer to the attendance section of our Design39Campus website for protocols regarding reporting student absences and requesting early release for your student.'
California Education Code 48205 states that a student may be excused legally from school when the absence is due to:
- Personal illness or injury
- Quarantine under the direction of a county or city health office
- Medical, dental, or chiropractic services
- Attendance at funeral services for a member of the immediate family
- Justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, an appearance in court, observance of a holiday or ceremony of his or her religion, attendance at religious retreats, attendance at an employment conference, when the pupil's absence has been requested in writing by the parent and approved by the principal or designated representative
- For the purpose of serving as a member of a precinct board for an election
- Exclusion for failure to present evidence of immunization
- Exclusion from school because student is either the carrier of a contagious disease or not immunized for a contagious disease
Communication with your Designer: If there is a need to communicate with your child during the school day, please send a message to your child’s LED or the Welcome Center. Please refrain from communicating with them directly through text messages or phone calls as it disrupts their learning.
Personal Items: For equity reasons, we are asking that students keep their personal playground equipment at home or in their backpack. Our wonderful Collaborative supplies us with enough funding to ensure that there is enough equipment during recess and lunch.
The D39C Collaborative
The D39C Collaborative is a 100% volunteer-run foundation designed to be responsive to the needs of students, parents, and learning experience designers of Design39Campus. Their mission is to expand and enhance the educational experience of every student attending Design39Campus.
