SLPHS Families,
We launched into trimester 2 this week. I spent time in classrooms yesterday and today and classes are off to a good start. We have 10 more days of classes before the winter break and want to be sure we start trimester 2 strong, before students step away for break. Reminder – There is no school Dec. 23-31. School resumes after winter break on Monday, January 3.
Tonight, we host two events – one for juniors and one for seniors. Even if you didn’t RSVP for these events, please come. We welcome the Class of 2023 and families to the high school for college planning kickkoff. Find more information in this update to juniors. Seniors and families, we also have the FAFSA event this evening. Come and get one-to-one assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Find more information in this update to seniors.
Report cards
Last week, I shared that we will send trimester 1 report cards home via US mail (USPS), starting on December 17. Report cards are accessible through Campus Parent Portal beginning Friday, December 10. Here is a link to a video tutorial on how to access your student’s report card.
Report cards are just one of many ways that we report on student learning throughout the year. Report card grades reflect student learning, and teachers look at evidence of learning, over time, to determine where students are at in their learning at the time of report cards. Here are a few reminders:
- Course grades for Trimester 1 are based on student learning for academic outcomes that were designated in the Trimester 1 overview, developed for each course at Grades 9-12 and shared with students and families in Schoology at the beginning of the trimester.
- Students will receive a grade of NY (Not Yet) for any year-long courses where they have submitted evidence of learning but have not demonstrated proficiency in their learning to result in a grade of A, B, C, or D. Grades of NY will replace an F for Trimester 1 for year-long courses.
- Students will receive a grade of NE (No Evidence) for any year-long courses where they have submitted no or limited evidence of learning in Trimester 1.
- Students who receive grades of NY or NE during Trimester 1 will continue to work with their teachers on demonstrating their learning for the course outcomes. Once students demonstrate proficiency report card grades of NY or NE may be updated.
We look forward to continuing to partner with families as we move through trimester 2 and the rest of the school year. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Winter weather protocols
Winter weather has arrived! While we’ve seen only a few flakes, we know more will be on the way. Please take some time to review our approach to school closings and alerts in response to weather and make sure your contact information is updated in Campus Parent Portal. Directions on how to update your information can be found on the school closing and alerts page. Email, text, voicemail and SLP app will be used to communicate any closings or adjustments to schedules due to weather.
Unless communicated, assume school is in session. Should we need to, there are four primary scenarios possible with winter weather and school closings:
- Schools are closed for the day.
- Schools are released early.
- Schools have a delayed start.
- School buildings are closed and there is a flexible learning day with learning continuing online using Schoology and/or Seesaw.
Our goal is to always have school in session. Visit the school closings and alerts page to learn more about our winter weather protocols.
Optional, rapid COVID-19 testing for students: Pre-complete consent form
Spring Lake Park Schools has partnered with our local and state public health offices to offer rapid COVID-19 testing for students in our schools. Testing is optional and free for students experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or for students when they have been exposed to someone with COVID-19. Testing is done at school with parental consent using the Cue Test which provides accurate results in about 30 minutes.
You may choose to complete a COVID-19 Cue Testing Consent Form now and keep it on file with our schools. Completing the consent form before testing is needed helps speed up the process when, or if, a student needs a test. School nurses only administer a test with a signed consent on file and will communicate with families before any test is done.
Look for an invitation in your email in the next day or two inviting you to complete the consent form for your student(s). Testing and/or pre-completing the consent process for your student(s) is entirely optional. Review and sign consent forms for your student(s) by logging into the Campus Parent Portal. Select the Surveys link from the main Message Center screen and select "COVID-19 CUE TESTING CONSENT FORM." You will find links to complete for each child you have enrolled in Spring Lake Park Schools.

Fall athletics and activities highlights
Creating great experiences. Connecting students with caring adults. Teaching life lessons. These are what make the foundation of each athletic and activity team and club offered at Spring Lake Park High School.
With 14 girls’ sports, 14 boys’ sports and 40 student-based interest clubs and co-curricular activities, there are abundant opportunities for each student to find connection, belonging and purpose.
This fall, senior Kaitlyn Finnegan ran at the state cross country meet, the bowling team won the state tournament, FCCLA finished top in the nation and theater was back on stage in front of eager audiences. There are many more highlights from this fall. Everywhere Panthers went, they made us proud! Read the full story and view the photo gallery.
