Dear CRUNFamily,
The days are getting a bit longer which means spring is upon us. Winters are tough on people and we are lucky in Colorado that we still see the sun from time to time in these cold, dark months. Behaviors rise in the month of February due to the dark, the cold and the need to be indoors more often than usual. Our kids 'spin out' a bit more in the late winter for this reason and we work hard to support our kids through these struggles. Our partnerships with families are so important, but even more so when the "goin gets tough". As parents, you might be seeing more attitude, mouthiness, meltdowns etc, but your patience, your coaching and your guidance for your kids is essential during these times. We get it, believe me, it takes away from learning and can be a disruption at school too. But taking the time to point out the reason for these emotional struggles can be so helpful to kids when they are experiencing these out of control episodes in their bodies. Taking the time to process through meltdowns will pay dividends in the long run. Part of the SEL (social emotional learning) that we do at school is about just this topic, regulating confusing emotions in appropriate ways. We believe that the more kids can understand what is going on in their bodies and have strategies to manage it, the more self regulating they can be. You upper grades families have an even trickier journey because add to the "winter slump" the fact that hormones and body changes are also happening at the same time. PHEW it is A LOT! But our village can get through ANYTHING because we do it together! We>Me!!!!

What Are Your Plans For Next Year?
It is that time of year where we start planning and budgeting for next school year. We need to know if your child will be with us for the 24-25 school year. Please fill out THIS form by February 23 sharing if you will be returning and your important feedback about your child in order to assist us in placing your child in the best classroom fit for them. MAKE SURE YOU GO ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE DOC AS THERE IS A SECOND PAGE TO THE SURVEY. Teachers and admin work together to build these classes in a balanced way and your feedback helps with that. Where we cannot honor teacher requests, we do consider parent feedback when balancing classrooms.
