REMINDER RE: TOMORROW'S BMX PRESENTATION!!
TikTok Challenges
By now, you may be familiar with the "Devious licks" TikTok Challenges and how they have been impacting schools across the country. We have recently seen an increase in bathroom issues at Jordan/Jackson. Students are intentionally clogging sinks, urinals and toilets and flooding bathrooms. The result of this behavior has obvious impacts throughout the school day. Our custodial staff's attention is diverted from other daily responsibilities to close and clean bathrooms. Therefore, other students don't have access to bathrooms for that period of time.
Today I sent an audio update to staff to share with students in the classroom. We are reminding students of the consequences for disruptive behavior and school property damage, as outlined in the Student Handbook.
More important than consequences, is the awareness that this type of behavior is counter to the tenants upon which the culture of the Jordan/Jackson School is founded: We care about ourselves, others and our school. We will continue to reinforce this in a variety of ways in school.
I hope that your awareness of this issue is helpful to you and your family. I know that this behavior is not representative of the vast majority of Jordan/Jackson students. However, it provides the opportunity for all of us to remind students that just because something is "popular" or someone is telling you to do something, doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Just like everything we do at the elementary level, it's a developmental learning opportunity.
I realize students can learn about these things even if they do not have a social media account. However, it also provides an opportunity for families to review the age restrictions for social media accounts and discuss the pros and cons to these platforms with their children. Below are some resources you may find helpful.
Thank you for your time.

A NOTE FROM OUR NURSES RE: COVID-19 VACCINE FOR AGES 5-11
The CDC has approved a low dose COVID-19 vaccine produced by Pfizer for children ages 5 through 11. It is administered in two doses, given 3 weeks apart. Both doses are required in order to obtain maximum benefit.
If you elect to have your child immunized, please be sure to send documentation to the school nurses. At this time, there will not be any clinics offered through the Mansfield Public Schools.
Check with your pediatrician about the availability of vaccines or click on the link below for more information.

MPS Food Policy in Alliance with State and Federal Nutrition Standards
As our daily school activities are getting back to “normal”, we would like to review our district wide food policies. MPS has implemented strict guidelines regarding food in the classroom so that all students may safely participate. Many students have serious food allergies and medical conditions and anytime food items are used, even if not ingested, it puts these students at a potential risk. It is important that everyone refamiliarize themselves with the policies and procedures for food in the curriculum to protect our school community.
It is great to see after school activities starting up again. If there is going to be food at an after school event, keep in mind proper distancing associated with COVID mitigation strategies. Students eat lunch at three feet during the school day due to space limitations. Please provide 6 foot distancing for any after school event where food will be consumed. At this time, masks should still be worn at all times inside.
Please review content from the School District Wellness Policy which was reviewed in the annual mandated training, Health Services Training Slides
Curriculum and Classroom Instruction: Food products may be used to enhance classroom instruction when there is a clear or specific connection to the curriculum.
Approval must be obtained through school approved request forms, Food in the Curriculum Flowchart and Food in the Curriculum Approval Form, at least one month prior to activity.
Student Rewards: Food or beverages will not be used as rewards for good behavior or academic achievement unless it is part of a student’s Individual Educational Plan or directed by a medical professional.
School Celebrations: All classroom parties and school celebrations (e.g. birthdays, holidays) held during the official school day will be NON-FOOD events.
Fundraising Activities: Student fundraising activities may occur with the permission of the Superintendent or designee.
After-School Clubs, Activities, and Athletic Teams: School-sponsored or school-related celebrations or events that occur after the official school day are not covered by this policy.
The MPS encourages at least 25% of all foods and beverages sold or supplied after school hours support healthy choices.
All forms are available on the district website under the "staff" dropdown then click on "staff resources."
