The Falcon's Nest
November 2019
Principal's Corner by Jennifer Updike
Inspire. Empower. Achieve. is our daily mission. Our vision this year is to Inspire Curiosity and to let the love of learning bloom. I just wanted to take this opportunity to share some of the exciting learning opportunities our students have been experiencing at Clinton-Massie Elementary School based upon the question above:
Student Jobs-Students apply and are hired to help our school
Sensory Garden-Outdoor learning is an ideal way to introduce children to their world through a new lens and an alternate perspective. We want to empower children to investigate, experiment and formulate new ideas through challenges and exploratory play. Encouraging this natural sense of wonder and curiosity will facilitate a child’s lifelong love of learning. With the support of teachers, PTO, and the community this dream is becoming a reality.
Outdoor Education-We live in a beautiful community and want to get our kids outside and learning from nature. Naturalist Harlan from Yellowstone came and spoke to our teachers during a professional development day. Many of our teachers are taking science outside this year. I am excited to see more students learning outside.
Makerspace-Building on the success of the maker space initiative from last year we continue to allow students to explore, problem-solve, and create in our maker space.
Clubs-Students 3 times a year get to pick a club that interests them during the school day. Not only do the students get to learn outside of the core subjects they get to see their teachers sharing their passions and hobbies outside of the school day.
Video Announcements-Check out our youtube site for our daily announcements. Here we focus on building a culture of a Growth Mindset(Mindset Monday), Worry-Free Wednesday- a culture of emotional and social intelligence, and our Fabulous Flock of Falcon Friday where we celebrate POSITIVE office referrals.
New instructional strategies such as GRID
Standards-Based Grading-Introductory Letter, Intro Video
These are just a few of the inspiring learning activities we have here at CMES. I hope your child comes home excited about learning and looks forward to coming to school. We are always open to ideas and look to get better at inspiring our students to be lifelong learners, so feel free to share by emailing or stopping by to share your ideas.
Thanks for sharing your students with us and have a fabulous November!!!

Falcon Packs - PTO
Falcon Packs are an ongoing activity of the PTO and the elementary school. While the food drive in September was successful in getting the first of many bags packed, the need for food will continue throughout the school year. An Amazon Charity List has been created to better communicate the items that are necessary to keep the Falcon Packs in the hands of those that need them the most - the students! Simply add an item from the list to your cart, have it shipped to the school, and we'll take care of the rest! If you have any questions, please send us a message!
Charity Lists are currently only viewable on a desktop - not on mobile devices!
