March News and Events
March 1, 2024
Hello Eisenhower Families!
Each morning we give a shout out to at least one student for demonstrating behavior that aligns with our Character Strong traits. It is a gift to see the pride and joy in the eyes of the students after their name is shared over the morning announcements. A small token we send home to honor their demonstration of an exemplary character choice is a magnet with a description of the trait they demonstrated. If your child has come home with a character trait magnet, we'd love to hear if they were excited to share it with you. Our hope is that the magnet will continually serve as a reminder of how it feels to be Character Strong.
I would like to take a moment to thank all of our families who were able to set aside time in their busy schedules to attend parent/teacher conferences over the past two weeks. Thank you for taking the time to show your child(ren) that you value their education. Together we make an even bigger difference.
In partnership and appreciation,
Lillian DeRung
Principal

Book Swap
A message from our Student Council:
Thursday, April 4th the Student Council will be hosting a book swap! If students want to participate they should bring in new or gently used books on April 2nd or 3rd and drop them off in the link on the way into school. The first 10 minutes of each grade level recess on April 4th will be designated for those participating to select their "new to them" books. Students can bring as many books as they want, however, they will be selecting a maximum of four books from the book swap. The left over books will be used to refill our Little Library in front of the school.
– Jillian and Aleena, Student Council members
A note from Principal DeRung:
This event is optional and fully sponsored by our Student Council members. Please help support us by ensuring students are selecting age appropriate books to share. Also note that we will not be previewing the books. Thank you for your support!

How to Help Prevent the Spread of Influenza
What is influenza (flu)?
Influenza (flu) is a respiratory disease caused by a virus that attacks the nose, throat, and lungs. The virus can result in mild to severe symptoms. It is not the same as the “stomach flu.”
What are the symptoms of influenza?
Flu symptoms include fever, dry cough, sore throat, headache, extreme tiredness, and body aches. These symptoms come on quickly and can be severe keeping you in bed for several days.
What can I do to protect myself and others?
- Get vaccinated
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue available, cough into your sleeve instead of your hand.
- Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick. If you get the flu, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Practice other good health habits; eat well-balanced meals, exercise, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and get plenty of rest.
With flu season upon us, please help us in preventing the spread of influenza. When calling your child into our absence line please say what their symptoms are - examples being sore throat, cough, fever, strep throat, etc.

Parenting News
Chores are important for kids to have and are the focus of this month's parent press. Chores teach kids about responsibilities and helps build their independent skills. Unfortunately, some kids just don't want to put in the extra work. Starting at a young age, every person in the household should have chores. This shows kids that some tasks are done just because they are part of the family unit and it helps make the household run smoother. Here are some tips and activities for home, to help take the chore out of chores. Tawnya Heinsohn is our parent educator and a great resource. Getting out the door in the morning tough? Child not getting enough sleep? Let her help add some tools to your parenting toolbelt.
