The Ice Age
By; Spencer Gray & Tori Farrell(:
Q. When was the last Ice Age?
A. The last ice age ended about 11,700 years ago.
Q. Describe What Happened that Caused the Ice Age.
A. Climate change on really long time scales and are more likely connected to plate tectonics. Plate motions lead to cycles of ocean basin growth and destruction, known as Wilson cycles, using continental rifting, seafloor-spreading, subduction, and collision. There are a lot explanations of the latest ice age that involved a climate-tectonic connection.

Q. How was the Earth overall changed? (Continents, Oceans, Atmosphere, ect..)
A. The Earth changed it's tilt away from the sun, and about 1/3 of the earth was ice. It left glaciers and sheets of ice that covered valleys and rivers. It left glaciers and sheets of ice that covered valleys and rivers. Very, very cold. Froze oceans and rivers. Its also killed a lot of wildlife that couldn't adapt.
Q. What is the evidence of an Ice Age?
A. The ways in which some rocks were polished smooth and some showed different layers allowed geologists to measure how thick the glaciers and ice sheets were. Also fossils that still had some hair (wooley mammoths) help determine the tempuratures by the thickness of the fur. The thicker the fur; the cooler the tempuratures.

Q. What organisms may have gone extinct in this ice age and what ones may have thrived and grown?
A. The ice age killed pretty much all the dinosaurs. That was one of main reasons at least. But many more animals thrived in the ice age. The wooley mammoth was one of them. Actually one of the most thought of an animals when it comes to the ice age. There also was the saber-tooth cats, giant ground sloths, and mastodons.
Q. What was the astronomical event that caused the ice age?
A. We know that a comet/asteroid impact in the Yucatan peninsula wiped out the dinosaurs almost 70 million years ago, but there are many theories for what caused the ice age. It could have been caused by a huge volcanic eruption or a simple tilt change of the Earth that changed the climate. But it was most likely caused by the seas getting warmer, not colder. More water evaporated from the seas, and landed as snow, which was compacted into ice, and took an incredibly long time to melt.
