A MESSAGE FROM BRIAN FORSHEE, CFHS PRINCIPAL
Congratulations to the Girls Swim Team who competed this weekend at UIL State Swim Meet. CFHS girls took 2nd in State!
Reminder, Juniors will be taking the SAT next week March 6th.
Please take a few minutes and complete our annual campus climate survey. All students, staff, and parents will have an opportunity to give their input on Fulshear High School and LCISD. Feedback on where we can improve and what we do well! Currently, 165 parents have taken the survey. (Survey closes this Friday)
(Takes approximately 10 mins - Please use link below, or check email from Insight K-12.)
Good luck to all who compete this week.
Don't forget the expectations for the second semester, they're the SAME rules!
Dress code, ID, and phone rules start when you enter the building.
Don't forget that hoodies must be down inside the building ALL day.
- Phones/AirPods/headphones should not be visible in the HALLWAYS from 8:25-3:50 daily! This INCLUDES between classes. Please put them in your backpack, or they will be taken up. There is no need to argue or get upset when that happens because you have been given plenty of time to learn this.
Attendance Questions? Please use the following email anytime: attendance-fulshear@lcisd.org

Action Required
Climate Survey
They should take the survey via ClassLink via the shortcut called “2023-24 Annual Climate Survey.”
Here is the link as well https://survey.k12insight.com/p/23-24studentschoolclimate
REVISIT - Policies & Procedures
- badges are required for all staff and students. Please scan classes for badges and send them to the attendance office for a temporary badge if they do not have one.
- 10/10 - please do not allow students passes during the first or last ten minutes of class.
- Outside of the 10/10 rule, students must have passes with accurate information. Collect and destroy the pass after the student returns to you.
- Tardies - mark consistently. Administrators assign discipline to address and ensure students get to class on time, but it only works if we all do our part. Mark students tardy in Skyward every day, every period if they are not in your class by the time the bell rings.
- Doors must remain closed and locked at all times.
- Cell phones and headphones should not be visible in the hallways. Please remind students of this when they exit your class.
NEW - Lights ON at all times
Strive
Please make sure that you are electronically signing all documents in Strive upon receipt.
Congratulations, Mr. Watkins!!
Please help us congratulate Mr. Watkins. He will be the Principal at Leaman Junior High School for the 24-25 school year. He joined CFHS this year as Associate Principal and has so much purple pride that he is moving on next year to make sure our Chargers are well prepared when they enter our campus.
He won't be leaving our building yet, so continue to contact him as needed for this school year.
We are so proud of you, Mr. Watkins!
Great Instruction! Great Teachers!
Grouping Strategy Alert!
Mrs. Nicholson uses colored notecards with both a number on the front and a letter on the back. She throws all the cards out on one table, and when students enter the room, they are told to pick a card. The students don’t know whether Mrs. Nicholson will use the color, the number, or the letter to arrange their seating. (Therefore, later class periods can’t “strategize” to sit with their friends!) Once settled into their new groups, students spend a few minutes introducing themselves and conversing over a non-school-related given topic.
Data with a Smile!
Modified Frayers for Vocabulary Mastery
Students can learn more than just one term by using these modified Frayer models. For each word, students must find synonyms, antonyms and examples. In this way, they actually learn more vocabulary and also find patterns in the roots of words.
Charger Time
Please make sure that you are enrolled in the Charger Time Canvas and access it each day during Charger Time.
There may be short tasks for students or information for students from Mr. Forshee, Ms. Saville, counselors, etc. Click the purple button to access the Canvas. Navigate to the appropriate week/day.
Celebrating Black History Month
If you are integrating a lesson that highlights or celebrates Black History Month, please reach out to your instructional coaches. We would love to highlight it!
Information from Instructional Coaches
Everyone is doing a remarkable job working to engage our students! Don't forget our "big three" strategies that connect to last years 8 Kagan strategies!
1. Get them moving.
2. Get them talking.
3. Get them in front of you.
Do your students know the goal/objective of the day's work? Can they tell you in their own words?
Instructional Coaching Tidbit
What our students attend to (and when) is ultimately what they end up learning about. One way we can orchestrate this is by maximising the proportion of pupils who participate.
But we can go further, by adapting these strategies (and others) to maximise the depth and duration that each student pays to each idea (what Doug Lemov calls 'think ratio').
One way we can achieve this is by stacking high participation techniques. Like getting everyone to write down their thoughts, before discussing with a partner, before sharing via cold call (aka 'think, pair, share').
Another strategy is to build 'thinking time' and 'soft accountability' into such activities. For example, during questioning, we might introduce a (silent) period of time between posing the question and seeking an answer, during which we actively scan the room as if we are looking into their minds 😵💫
