Message from the Principal
Good evening Mustangs,
This week marks the final stretch before we all get a chance to recharge during Spring Break! I know everyone is excited for some well-deserved time off, but let's not forget – we still have a productive week ahead. Remember Mustangs, this is the time to buckle down, focus on your studies, and finish the week strong. Put in the extra effort on those assignments, ask questions in class, and don't hesitate to reach out to your teachers or counselors for support. Remember, a strong finish sets you up for a successful return after the break.
Now, let's talk about some fun! This week is also our Monty in Wonderland Spirit Week! Get creative, embrace your inner whimsy, and dress up according to the daily themes. It's a great way to show your school spirit and have some laughs with your classmates.
And to top it all off, the week culminates in our highly anticipated Spring Sports Assembly on Friday! Come cheer on your fellow Mustangs and celebrate the dedication of our incredible student-athletes.
So, Mustangs, let's make this a fantastic week! Focus on academics, have some fun with Spirit Week, and get ready to cheer loud and proud at the Assembly.
Go Big BLUE!
Sincerely,
Julio Alcalá
Principal, Otay Ranch High School

Mustangs Recognized for Exemplifying the Culture of Achievement and Belonging
MOORE, NIYANA R
Recognized by Ms. Burgess for demonstrating Learning:
"Niyana is our Mustang Poet competitor in Poetry Outloud! --a national competition. In her humble manner she asked it not to be announced in class but I must submit her as someone who thoughtfully completes her ERWC 12 work and has excellent insight and connections to whatever we are studying. We are very proud to see Niyana represent our school at the County-level of competition next week!"
RODRIGUEZ, CAROLYN M
Recognized by Ms. L. Hernandez for demonstrating Learning, Unity, and Empathy:
"Carolyn always has an enthusiastic attitude about learning. She always participates and is engaged in the material. She uses her positive energy to help others and her joy for arts and crafts by helping to decorate the classroom."
ODAVAR, KESHA MAE D
Recognized by Ms. Cruz for demonstrating Belonging, Learning, Unity and Empathy:
"Kesha is our Pangkat Sayaw Club president. She participates and leads all members in school events and community activities in support of our culture of belonging. She also helps choreograph dances and explore other interests in music and playing musical instruments. She welcomes everyone and celebrates the diversity we have on our campus. I am very impressed with the leadership skills she developed throughout her four years in Pangkat Sayaw."

Congratulations Full Effect Show Choir!!!
Last Saturday Otay's very own Full Effect Show Choir attended the San Diego Sings Show Choir Competition hosted by Bonita Vista HS and achieved a 1st place win in their respective division. In addition to their placement they also received best overall musicianship and best overall showmanship in the Novice Mixed Division. The band students provided the backup music for the performance while other groups used either recorded tracks or hired professional musicians. It's quite an accomplishment for them to achieve at such a high level without the same resources other, larger programs have. Please make sure to make it out to Culture Night on March 1st to see their full performance live.
Best,

AP Research Survey: Robot-Assisted Surgeries
My name is Gia and I am an 11th grader taking AP Research. I am researching to what extent prior knowledge of robot-assisted surgeries affects the negative or positive perceptions and opinions of patients/potential patients considering treatment. It would benefit my research if adults in our community would take the survey to see if their opinion differs from the younger demographic.
In my survey, which should take about 5 minutes to complete, I ask about prior experience with surgery and questions that help judge perception and opinion of robot-assisted surgeries. Then I've added some short videos and a bit of reading explaining what exactly is robot-assisted surgery and some data about it. I finally reiterate a few questions to see if the opinion of robot-assisted surgery has changed.

Student Parking Registration
Mustangs,
To increase our efforts in ensuring the safety of our campus, we began issuing student parking permits at the ASB Finance windows (the ones that face the main office).
In order to get a parking permit, you will need to fill out the following registration form: Parking Permit Registration
(You must sign in with your Student Google Account)
After the form is completely filled out, you may come to the Finance windows and show your Valid Driver License. You will then be issued a parking permit that must be hung on your rear view mirror anytime you park on campus.
After a two week grace period, any car parked in student parking lots without a student parking permit will be subject to be being towed at the owner’s expense.
If you have any questions please let me know.
