Characteristics
•William established a camp near Hastings after landing in England on 28 September 1066.
•In the last months of his reign he spent most if his time fighting Philip I, King of France.
•In 1081 he marched his troops into Wales and created defensive 'marcher' counties along the borders.
•On September 9, 1087 he died from an injury he received when he fell from his horse at the Siege of Mantes.
