Important update and guidance for LEAs regarding privacy of student data
Parents/Guardians:
A judicial ruling in a recent court case is impacting the sharing of student data in our state, this link will provide you with a summary of case: http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/di/ws/documents/order2016jan26.pdf?_cldee=Z2NhbGxhaGFuQHBldGsxMi5vcmc%3d
As a result of this ruling, neither your school, or the Petaluma City Schools Districts are being required to share student information, so it is not necessary to contact your school or the District if you are concerned. However, the California Department of Education (CDE) is being compelled by the judge to release information to attorneys working on a case. If you object to the CDE sharing information about your student(s) you can write a letter to the judge by following these steps: Include the name of the student on whose behalf the letter is written, the author's name and relationship to the student, the student's date of birth, county, school district, and school, and, if desired, the basis of the objection. Or you may file your objection by completing the attached form (http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/di/ws/morganhillcase.asp?_cldee=Z2NhbGxhaGFuQHBldGsxMi5vcmc%3d) and follow the direction on the bottom of the form. If you have any question visit our district website at www.petalumacityschools.org
